I can understand why the cut off beer sales with 10:00 left in the 3rd period... but why do all (or most) concession stands also close down at this time...?
I say keep all MTS Centre concession stands (both in upper and lower deck) OPEN for 30 mins-45 mins after a game has concluded.
Sure, most people want to get out there and drive home (esp. if the team just got hammered), but I've often left sports games with a hankerin' for a hot dog or burger... only to find all concession stands closed.
If you've had a few beers during a sporting event, you will be hungry after the game...

Obviously they would stay open if there was a demmand. Why staff them all just to sell one hot dog to a fat kid?

Gotta agree....more often than not if a business is closed at a certain time, it's because there is no demand to have it open. General rule of thumb is that businesses aren't run by idiots. Corporations are. Anyway....I'm pretty sure this is the case in most sporting venues. Hit the concourse after the game and all the cages have been pulled down. Gotta head outside and get some street-meat.

Really now... how much would it cost to keep the concession stands open an extra 30 minutes...?

Hey how's that "NHL team to Hamilton" campaign goin' Jeff? You're a little off topic there Jason. We're discussing whether or not concession stands should stay open after events. I believe you started it, so keeping on topic shouldn't be an issue for you.

LOL, That is hilarious... Oh and by the way do you realize how happy that fat kid would be?? Keeping them open may generate more sales.. I think it's worth a try.

I can understand why the cut off beer sales with 10:00 left in the 3rd period... but why do all (or most) concession stands also close down at this time...? Simple economics. There is usually no demand after the game. If they kept it open well after games end, they would have added expenses that would likely erase any profit made.

seeing as how this has been bumped up, I should mention that during the playoffs, the concessions stay open as long as the game is a tie. I seem to remember getting a beer during the second OT of a game once. Either that or I snuck in my own brew and just cant remember

I think the real reason the concessions close is to encourage people to get the eff out of the building after games so everyone that's been working there can go home. All the power they'd use to keep the lights on likely wouldn't make up for what food they'd sell. (ex. The ACC's power bill is about $1 million per game day. They trim it on off days by not running escalators, etc.) Money aside, there's security issues tied into trying to close down your building while people (some possibly very angry or drunk) walk around the rink, eating their quizno's and drinking their tim horton's coffee, which they picked up just because it was open. sure, they don't mind the odd autograph hound sticking around, but you don't want to encourage 15,000 people to just hang out after an event.
