One of the revenue streams that US-based franchises enjoyed exclusively until around 2000 was local/regional coverage. Some of it is on cable (Fox or Comcast Sportsnet, or Sportschannel before it) and some of it is on regular TV (e.g., Bruins on WSBK in Boston). The Sportsnet/TSN regional coverage didn't arrive until well after the Jets flew south. That is supplemented, as we know, by A Channel games in the case of the Oilers and Flames and RDS games for the Habs.
A few of the US teams have all games on TV (NYR, NJD, NYI, LA, PHI) while most of them have some home, some road games shown. The Chicago Blackhawks are notorious for Bill Wirtz's ban on home games with few exceptions (ESPN main channel, Fox or ABC or NBC broadcast). All Hawks road games are covered by Comcast Sportsnet Chicago (OLN USA is blacked out if the game is from United Center).
One revenue stream that the new Jets should strive for, is to have all road games shown on TV ... broadcast, cable or PPV. To reduce costs, the in-game feed could be taken from available US local coverage although the announcers are paid by the host team (one reason why local US coverage sounds like homers ... they are paid shills!). CKND or A Channel or community channel can do the intermissions shows from Winnipeg. We insert our commercials when the US local broadcast does their's.
And yes, that means that all those years, when the Jets played the Rangers in NYC, those game were available on C band satellite, broadcast by MSG Network. C Band is now encrypted but once legal arrangements are made, the new Jets can have those games downlinked by our local broadcasters.
