in the near future, if its happening already, north american pro teams will begin to have advertisement on their uniforms.
this year, the yankees and some other MLB club each wore an advertising patch of some company in toyko...i can't remember which...
some nba teams are comtemplating on putting company ads on some team's jersey.
in european hockey leagues, teams have a smorgasbord of advertising on the uniform; up from the helmet, to the jersey and down to the pants..
if the jets do come back, having advertisement on the jersey can be seen as an extra revenue source; for example we might see a air canada patch on a jets jersey or see a molson canadian patch stuck on a helmet on a jets player.
advertisement on jerseys can be lucrative to small market teams like winnipeg..
teams could knock down ticket prices while at the same time can be "rolling around in dough" from advertisement on the team's uniform......i just hope it wont' be as bad like the teams over there in sweden...
another type of revenue source is to place advertisement on goal posts.....i haven't seen an nhl game yet where the goal posts are full of advertisements...

ads on jerseys I hope not.
ads on goal post sure but aren't the arenas shoving the ads too much in our faces like really enough is enough, we have the Led ribbon boards generating great revenues I think thats where it should end.

The jersey is sacred, no advertising what so ever, it's bad enough that Nike swoops, CCM whatever is allowed, that should be it and that goes for baseball and football (could care less about basketball) Do we want the uniforms to look like a car from Nascar? That's what the European uniforms look like to me |

i think it should be toned down a bit.....
i know u guys don't like it...but i have to say if u want the jets here, ads do create plenty of extra revenue///

The reason the European teams have the advertisment on their uniforms is so the team will stay afloat. Most European teams, if not all, don't have private owners it is all done by sponsors. Without sponsors, no hockey. Now if you had the choice which would you choose???

The CFL has one ad patch on each team's uniform, which doesn't look THAT bad. It might esem odd if we were the only team in the league to do it, and the idea may even need league approval. I like how the MTS Centre has naming rights for other areas (eg Winnipeg Free Press Concourse). How much $$$ does that bring in? Could other parts of the building be sponsored off? Rainbow Stage has 2 corporate sponsors for each half of the sidewalk that enters the building.

i think it would be ok if we didn't over do it, cuz some teams in europe could barely fit on there eam logo there were so many advertisments, but 1 or 2 small advertisements would be alright

i saw a picture of my cousin in his european uniform and it was insane. he played for the moose but then played in europe for a while

NO NO NO NO NO WAY you wanna advertise? then pay for signage on the boards or on walls in the arena! Leave the game alone please quit changing the Canadian hockey Heritage. GEEZ why dont we just go back to laser pucks.

yeah i noticed that too. another thing about advertising is that at a moose game that i went to (still kickin myself in the pants for doing so), i saw a couple empty seats that had signs on them with the mcdonalds logo. but we shouldnt have to worry about that when we get a nhl team (there wont be any empty seats!) ;D
