I just had an amazing idea for a new revenue source!
Online auctions via a new Winnipeg Jets website!
Players could put up sticks, gloves, helmets, jerseys, skates (all game-worn) up for auction on their website and anyone.... ANYONE on Earth with a credit card or PAYPAL account and internet connection could bid on these items!
Of course, a portion of the proceeds would go to charity (the Winnipeg Jets charity of choice), but the rest could go directly to the team.
The possibilities are endless...
(cue 'Apprentice' theme) Money money money muuuuuuuneh!....... MAH-NEE....

merchandising is where the money is...
have somebody professional and cutting edge design a huge logo so people that have no idea about hockey or winnipeg or the team will buy the clothing just because of a cool logo....
pay 50cent or eminem to were the jersey in a video....that will sell a Go Jets Go load of merchendise to kids in the states....monkey see monkey do...
they should make the team color either all red...or all blue....so the gangs in in the states will buy it like crazy...

NFL Auctions: www.nfl.com/auctionsAgain, just imagine something like this on www.WinnipegJets.com ... say half the profits go to the Jets charity of choice, the other half directly to the team? Tell me why it can't work.

All of the money from those auctions goes to charity. They don't keep proceeds for themselves.
The money that the Jets would get would be from tax refunds for there donations to charity.

Why can't the Jets hold an auction and keep the profits for themselves?
Why can't the Jets hold an auction and give a % to charity instead of all of it?
Enlighten me.

But honestly, how would they look when pretty much every other sports team out there gives away profits from this kind of thing to charity?

I'm not saying that they couldn't keep the proceeds for themselves, but the reason teams have charity events like that are to get tax refunds back.

The new Wpg. NHL team will have to squeeze every dollar it can from people like us in order to remain profitable and competitive.
Our smaller arena size and the fact we'll have among the fewest luxury suites will necessitate the need for revenue sources other NHL teams may not use.

But there's a balance between squeezing profit from where it should be squeezed, and being the good corporate and community-oriented team with a conscience that people expect sports teams to be these days.
