Jet games (even ones on free tv) could be shown at the IMAX theatre.
They could charge $9.95 - $14.95 per game, and a % of these revenues could go straight to the team.

it would really be awesome to see a hockey game on a screen the size of an imax screen. but don't their features need to be shot in that special imax format, or be remastered into that format at an increadible cost (star wars or harry potter), in order to be played over their projectors.

you can show anything on imax...it'll only be as big as a regular movie screen....on a side note...why hasn't anybody tried to show an old game there?....way back a buddy of mine set up to show the old stars wars movies on there....didn't go through because of lack of interest....he said it cost around $500 though....just a thought....
to show games at imax or silver city places...it'll only work for playoff games....

I think Silver City is a better place to watch Jets games. IMAX was never designed for that kind of thing, and charging an arm and a leg for it? People will just head to the local tavern, and watch for free, just like they did when the Jets were here...

There *will* be a market for this.
I honestly don't think it would be too difficult for the IMAX at Portage Place to do something like this. IMAX is always looking for increase revenue and get more people in there (that's why they started showing movies there).
If someone doesn't have MTS t.v. and wants to see the game with kids, why wouldn't they consider seeing it at the IMAX theatre?

Thanks for your explanation about WHY they'd lose money...

Thanks for your explanation about WHY they'd lose money... It would cost too much to run on the IMAX screen, and very few people would attend. Why travel to portage Place, when you can enjoy a nice cold beer at the local tavern, which more than likely would have a satellite for the game.

How do YOU know it would "cost too much" ?
How do YOU know "very few people would attend"?
Personally I (and I know of others) would LOVE to see a *live* Jets game on the IMAX screen at least once a year.
And how come people go see movies like Star Wars and Spiderman 2 at the IMAX when they can just watch it in the regular theatres?
And last time I checked, kids under 18 weren't allowed in the "Local tavern"- so that wouldn't be an option for everyone. (Did you even *read* my post??)

You have many good ideas, but showing Jets games at the IMAX just would not fly. I couldn't picture anyone shelling out big bucks, especially on a weekday night game, when they could just order it off MTS or Satellite TV.

Who says it'll have to cost "big bucks"? What if it's $7.95/person ?
And they'd only show Fri. or Sat. night games.
And what if someone *didn't* have MTS t.v.?

And what if someone *didn't* have MTS t.v.? Chances are they would just go to their local sports pub. Remember, unlike Moose games, the key demographic for NHL hockey is 18-40.

I believe you are correct, Gee. Just another reason why I don't think the IMAX games would be economically feasible.

(BlackThorne bashes his head against the wall)
Again, what if they want to go with kids? Nephew's, niece's, daughters, sons, cousins, friends who are UNDER 18??
Can't do that at pubs/sports bars/lounges.
Again, the IMAX Pay-per-view Jet games would cater more towards families and under-18 hockey fans.
You don't think it could make money for a new Jets team. I think it could.
I'm not even sure if it's "doable"... I'm just brainstorming...

Oh really?
Well the Moose market towards kids and families and they seem to be doing pretty good...

Not really. Winnipeg could put an ECHL team here, and they would sellout th MTS Centre. THe Moose do good, attendance wise, since there is NO alternative...
