I was driving home late Wednesday night and listening to CJOB. They were discussing our new stadium for the bombers and some idiot phoned in and suggested we move the bombers to halifax for 4 years to help promote the league there.
Anyone heard anything that dumb on the radio lately?

the winnipeg stadium seemed fine to me the last time i was there.
what exactly will a $ 120m stadium offer 10 games per year that the current stadium can't ?
As owners of the team, every Manitoban should demand their say.

As a Manitoban who goes to many, many Bomber games, a new stadium is pretty much needed. Yeah, the current stadium fits out needs, but in five years or so, it will literally be falling apart. I don't think the need for a new stadium so much stems from what we need out of a stadium, but moreso, the condition of the current one. Plus, adding 10,000 seats couldn't hurt.

I dont think its a $120m for 10 games personally, this is more about making money on other things as well.Depends on what proposal you look at,could be a hotel/a few conference/trade show rooms/ice rink in the winter, plus the addition of luxury boxes and 3.ooo club seats, all things the club does not have now I think.
As far as the Halifax thing, yeah lets move a team to a place that has no place to play, that will really help promote the league,That makes as much sense as moving Montreal to Quebec City, they could play on a high school field there.

This is not meant to flame by any means, I was a season tix holder for many years & still go to lots of games....I love The Blue, but..... I can see how sports fans in Winnipeg now have a taste of how nice a venue can be(MTS) but the current stadium is far from capacity 10 times a year. So, unless our team can get a MUCH better fan base, why sink our dollars into something that no-one cares about. (when I say no-one, it's just a saying) I know we have 20 000 die hards & some walk ups on a Thursday (if it's sunny) , but that is not near enough, to have our dollars build a new stadium (for more $$ than MTS).
Completely Private?? Aboso-fukkin-lutely!!!! But I don't see one guy/gal in this city or province willing to spend any sort of there own money on sports in this town.

Completely Private?? Aboso-fukkin-lutely!!!! But I don't see one guy/gal in this city or province willing to spend any sort of there own money on sports in this town. I don't know. More and more people (older people at that) that I talk to are beginning to say stuff like "I guess we need to start thinking differently. A new stadium could have other sorts of benefits not relating to football". As much as you still hear the pessimists in the city, I think that's more because CJOB, the Free Press, etc like to print the negative views, maybe simply for debate. So as often as you hear from the pessimists, I don't think there are as many in the city as people think. I've talked to a surprising amount of people who have never even set foot inside Winnipeg Stadium who have said, "Yeah, a new stadium would be nice and if it takes some government funding, so be it". It's actually kind of refreshing to hear. These are the same type of people who may not ever go to a Jets game, but totally understand how NHL hockey would a) work better here and b) do more for Winnipeg that the AHL. These people are also known as logical. All that being said, I definitely see where you are coming from. The stadium will maybe get used 30 times a year. That's not too often for a 200 million dollar building. It will be nearly impossible to convince some people that it is worth it. I wouldn't want to be the guy who has to spin that one. I think part of the plan is to be able to use parts of the stadium year-round, but don't quote me on that. The only way they could make it fully an all year building is to build a dome, but that would annoy a lot of football fans, myself included. I would prefer the stadium to be 100% private, but I just can't see that happening. After all of the other new venues in the city getting government support, it's set somewhat of a precedent. I think their best bet is going with a plan that has a detailed plan on how the money will be repayed to the government. Hey wait. Doesn't Asper's proposal outline all of that?

i think in aspers plan he says that all governments will be repaid in 5ish years that's what I seem to recall. You need something like that in a proposal.

the stadium is used way more than 10 times a year. hundreds of highschool games are held there each fall, as well as rifles games and bison playoff games. the stadium is very important to amature sports as well as pro, and since the governments are always handing out $$$ to community centres and sports complexs this aspect of the stadium should be considered in the government funding. but it's never even mentioned, which is a shame considering there always seems to be support from the community and politicians for more amature sports complexes. heck i'm goinmg to email the FP right now and point this fact out.

This post started because someone was listening toCJOB! Why? And what could you expect to hear on CJOB. If it is news worthy all the other stations would broadcast it. Get a life and erase CJOB from your dail.
