Say Winnipeg had a dome or enclosed structure, what kind of things could/would you place in it to fill event dates. And something that would not be in competition with the MTSC,but more likely in comp with the Convention Center.
I hear domes get used about 200 times a year,so I'm just wondering .Have a few ideas but want to know what others think.
Bombers would use it around 20 times a year for games and practices.Maybe place an indoor carnival like Toronto and Van have in the winter months. That would take over about a week of dates including set up/tear down days, any suggestions.

I don't want a dome I want to sit outside and watch football not a glorified air-conditioned shed

Back when I didn't have an extraordinarily large Molson muscle, I used to speedskate. After the Olympics of 88 almost all athletes of any calibre moved out to Calgary to train at the oval (Including my best friend who has represented us many times at the Olympics starting with Lillehammer). I think it is safe to say that Calgary attracts many many athletes other than speedskaters from across the country.
If Winnipeg is serious about building a new structure of any size like this I think they would be best to think ahead for once and build something way beyond their means that could house all sorts of t&f events as well as winter events - like a long track oval. And for heaven's sake build it downtown with adjacent condo/apartment developments.
It is time for Winnipeg to start keeping her own talent, and even attract some from elsewhere!!! And yeah, this would fill it up!!!

I'd have to say that I disagree with building a track into the stadium. That just pushes fans even further away from the action than they are already. I do agree that you could have multiple purposes for a stadium beyond the turf and seating, but please don't go with a track. I like the proposed stadium that looks like a giant toilet bowl,.. which partial domed stadiums don't look like toilets? I believe it was going to have a hotel built in? How about attaching a gym/rock climbing/waterpark into the complex?

The guy who runs BC Place was on the news when the roof ripped. He made an aside, telling the reporter (it was CJOB, I believe), that if WPG builds a Stadium to cover it because trade shows are the biggest money maker. Now that is BC, but still. There is a difference between what you can attract when you have the right facility.
To me, it always made sense to build a dome from a revenue standpoint. An the cost is negligable. Think about it: $100 million uncovered stadium with a mortgage being paid from events six months a year...or $200 million dome with a mortgage being paid from events all year long. Twice the cost + twice the revenue = the same payments.

I don't want a dome I want to sit outside and watch football not a glorified air-conditioned shed Hey i will agree with that, but the reason i said dome was i think you could use it more all year round.Open air stadium limits what you can do for events......They could always use a transparent cover if it was a dome, and not a glorified Wpg arena.Kinda keep a cross section of ppl happy.....LOL

I like macitects idea....it wouldn't have push push Football fans back anywhere. The seats in any new stadium move. The track would sit under the first 25 rows of seats for football. This larger area would give the place far more options for sporting events. I personally do not like domes, & Winnipeg cannot attract conventions like Vancouver, it was said that 85% of all conventions they hold are from Seattle & surrounding areas. We have Grand Forks & Fargo to pull from.
We just can not have a empty building to heat & maintain for the 6 winter months. The place would have to be rented for at least 300 dates a year to make this feasable. I don't see what events it could attract that MTSC or the Convention center already handle.
What else would make this "dome" or enclosed facility $$$ ??

I know they already have monster trucks and super cross in the MTSC but in a football stadium they wouldn't have cramp it in. Also, perhaps a wrestlmainia, that would bring in lots of tourists. Its possible that building could draw away from the con. centre, the wedding show and/or car shows

Wrestlemania 25 in Winnipeg? I wouldn't mind that at all...
A dome would be best for Winnipeg. You guys have any idea how many people stay home when the weather is bad? How about a GLASS dome, so it would give us the impression we're outside?
Build it- and pray it never, ever hails in Winnipeg again.

Oh God!
I hope Winnipeg never builds a dome. It would be a colossal waste of money! We do not need a dome stadium. We just need to renovate the existing Stadium.
