Lot of talk about the Bombers contacting Jones. I think it is clear this is in response to media polls showing Winnipeg fans would embrace a return of Jones to shore up the back-up QB position.
My opinion is, they should absolutely sign him for either of two reasons:
1) He's better then our back-ups
2) PR
As far as being better then our back-ups, he's a veteran with a proven track record. Yes he is old (35), but when it comes to running the offense with decent players, I think could handle it. I think we're at a point where we just need someone to hold the fort while the defense does their job and I am sure Jones can do it. He would have no nerves and be able to read defenses.
For PR, the fans are down right now. This would be a feel-good signing that may have a positive move on the field and couldn't hurt the attendance. He deserves to retire in Winnipeg and could be honoured at season's end (Grey Cup??).
Working against him is his age and the fact the Bombers are looking for someone to 'fit into the system long term'. Well, excuse me, but was that not Taman's job in the off-season? Are Quinn, Banks and Michna no longer long term investments?
The other thing working against Jones is his veteran status. The Bombers would have to pay him for the entire year.
Banks is making $100,000 to be a third string QB and is a free agent at season's end. Dump him now. Jones could be had cheaper and I am sure the plan was always to keep Banks until the season ends and try to re-sign him, so what's the difference? Dumping Banks for Jones would probably be cheaper and make the fans happy. Michna was already cut once and could be cut again or kept in the system for sh!ts and giggles and at least until Glenn is back.
Even as a second or third stringer, Jones is a veteran with a positive attitude who could contribute on the side lines.
I say go for it.

I say, we should have got rid of him sooner, & leave him in the booth. His shoulder now has trouble "throwing" back upstairs.

I don't know, like Senner said, he had trouble throwing the ball with any ZIP towards the END, it became painfully obvious, that's why everyone was yelling for Glenn in the First Place.

I don't think it would hurt us to pick him up. He can't possibly be any worse than what they're working with now...

I totally agree, I'm not saying he should be our starter or anything like that, because he shouldn't be, he is a little old. But we need somebody, Quinn was terrible, Michna is horrendous, and Banks, come on, he looked awful too. We need somebody, I don't care how old he is, haha, we should contact dunigan! Also, I'm not understanding why Taman is making so many changes to the recieving corps. I thought it was good in the first place, I do like the signing of Robert Baker, but did we really need to accquire Kwame Cavil? I don't really think so. In my opinion, we should string together a deal with Toronto, and try and get Michael Bishop. Just my opinion though. Thoughts?

Baker is likely not going to report. He'd rather give up half a million dollars to chase his dream of becoming the 1 billionth rap star in the US. So Cavil was a good pick up. I think Taman is concerned that our receivers were not up to snuff. With Stegall out and an inexperienced QB, we needed our recievers to really step up and no one did. THis is as much a move to push the guys we have as anything else.
But I still maintain that the Bombers are blind as bats until they make Stoddard a regular starter... And I hear from reliable sources he wants to go to Edmonton.

I totally agree with you about Stoddard. He's a reliable guy, and a Canadian no less. He definitley should be a regular starter.
As for Baker, he's a great talent, but if he wants to go rap, I say let him, I was worried about him being a disturbance in the locker room anyways. Too bad though, I really liked how he played when he was with the Argos.
But we do need a QB, Bishop or Jones, I think, but I was wondering too, what about Jarious Jackson, 3rd string for the BC Lions. We haven't seen him play, but everyone in BC is just raving about how good he is. Maybe we should try and accquire him. But how good could a third stringer be, right?

I voted no to bringing Khari back. Nothing personal...I think Quinn shows better on Friday, and leads them to a win.

i say no just because it's not a great end to his career, being a spot duty backup, just plain insulting to KJ after what he did for the bombers

Absolutely not!!
He had one good year with an all star set of receivers to help him out. And that was what 5 years ago? He had a soft arm then and it couldn't have gotten any better with age.
