I think the CFL should stay within Canada. What would be wrong with putting a team in Newfoundland somewhere, or even in the maritimes. Seriously, we all know that if the CFL expanded any further south then the 19th parallel, it wouldn't survive, and even if it did, it wouldn't be about the game anymore, it would turn into a small version of the NFL. It would all be about the money. I don't think anything is wrong with the way the CFL is now, but if they were to expand, nothing is wrong with expanding into smaller Canadian towns. Even Brandon for instance is growing consistently every year, way to small now, but in years to come.....keep your eye on that one.

Here's another stupid thread I started, May I continue to contribute as One in Myself, Okay then, I like your idea about Brandon, what do they have right now 45, 000 people in the City, maybe another 15, 000 in lying areas, Montreal sells out at 20,000 in their stadium.....is it McGill, Revenue from 20, 000 goes as far in Montreal as it does in Brandon, maybe even further, the numbers may work, but are the Bombers still too much of a drain on the fan base in MB to support another team that close?

Yeah you're right, I was just using Brandon as an example. But maybe further north, like Churchill, or Flin Flon or something, but I have no idea what population is like up there.

One of the major problems with population trends in Canada is that most citizens end up living in large urban centres; eliminating the possibility of smaller communities of ever getting the opportunity to grow significantly. I live in a community that could be considered "rural".
Here is a list of population of CFL cities (according to Stats Canada):
CITY - POPULATION - REGIONAL POP. Calgary - 878,866 / 951,395 Edmonton - 666,104 / 937,845 Hamilton - 490,268 / 662,401 Montréal - 1,039,534 / 3,426,350 Regina - 178,225 / 192,800 Toronto - 2,481,494 / 4,682,897 Vancouver - 545,671 / 1,986,965 Winnipeg - 619,544 / 671,274
That being said, I believe there are a number of communities in Canada that the CFL should explore:
CITY - POPULATION - REGIONAL POP. Halifax - 359,111 / 359,183 (Nova Scotia - 908,007) London - 336,539 / 432,451 Ottawa - 774,072 / 1,063,664 - (A strong football tradition. Poor ownership in the past.) Québec - 169,076 / 682,757 Victoria - 74,125 / 311,902 Windsor - 208,402 / 307,877 - (The mayor of that city has pledged to build a new facility for a CFL in that city if a team were to arrive in Windsor.)
After that, it may be too much of a stretch for any other community to support a team.
Saint John - 69,661 / 122,678 (New Brunswick - 729,498) St. John's - 99,182 / 172,918 (Newfoundland & Labrador - 512,930)
Brandon too small, too close to Winnipeg/Regina Kingston too small, too close to Ottawa Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Mississauga, Brampton, Oshawa too close to Toronto/Hamilton Saskatoon too close to Regina ....
Divisions
EAST: Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Québec CENTRAL: Hamilton, London, Toronto, Windsor, Winnipeg WEST: British Columbia, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan, Victoria
Any thoughts?

Who suggested Brandon? Was that a joke? It'll be a good 50 years before the population is large enough to support a team. As much as I'd love to see it, it is almost impossible to fathom. Over 1/2 the population would have to pay to watch the games...and this includes the likes of my grandparents and 2 year old cousins. The actual football fan base would likely be 1-2000 people and how many would come regularily? I think the best bets for expansion are Halifax, Victoria, Quebec City or perhaps even a large northern american city like New York or Boston??? But Brandon? Not for another 50-100 years!

The US will only accept the NFL or college, look at all the failed pro leagues that tried to compete against the NFL (XFL, USFL, WFL, CFL first time, etc)

only way CFL could survive in the US is if all the teams are within 100miles of the us border, in places like detroit, seattle, buffalo, rochester etc

yep, but if the US got better CFL coverage i wouldn't be opposed to them expanding further south Why did they fail the first time? I remember I was living in Reno and the Bombers were playing in Sacremento, but I don't remember why all the US teams folded, was it lack of interest? I think the Vegas team drew hundreds of fans and Sac wasn't much better. The only strong team was Baltimore, is that correct?

baltimore was the only really strong team, they won a greycup. i think the only reason they moved were that baltimore got an NFL team. the rest of the teams struggled to survive at all due to lack of interest and it being a foreign game

Personally, I just don't see it happening. Didn't the US teams get to use all American players last time?

only way is if a major US network(nbc, abc, cbs, fox) starts showing their games. otherwise it would likley fail all over again

Maybe, a cable network and that's a big maybe.

they show arenafootball, i bet americans would rather watch CFL for their summer football fix since the CFL season starts like 3 months sooner than the NFL season, plus cfl is more like ameerican football, just my opinion though
