My buddy told this to me today and it makes pretty good sense what he said. He was talking about how alot of people drink quite a bit at Bomber games... and well... some of them likely drive home drunk(idiots).
So, by building the Stadium by the Perimeter, instead of having these drunk drivers going 50-60 through the city of Winnipeg, you are now going to have a road full of cars(since many will take the perimetre home especially those from the east side of the city), with some drunk drivers in the bunch now driving 80-100+ kilometres an hour instead of 50-60 and the road will likely be pretty full as well. Which could mean a lot of accidents potentially.
Just some food for thought, as I never would have thought of such a thing before he mentioned that today.

I like the idea of it being downtown. I think there was a suggestion of somewhere near Waterfront drive or Point Douglas, I am not sure of the exact location, but a nice central location would be great. Accessible by transit, different roads to get there (instead of one, the perimeter), would also help the redevelopment of downtown

Vancouver tried this with BC Place in the 80's, and there is a big movement to tear it down, since it is a major inconveinence for the people who work and live around the area.

I suppose that could be true, but the plans that I saw, I believe it was closer to the end (or beginning) of Waterfront, near Higgins. I don't think if it were there that it would dwarf the exchange district. Now that the mill is gone, it would be nice to start redeveloping that area as we know downtown will come alive again with the Jets return.

All they have to do is set up a ride program after every game, and nail those who decide to drive drunk.

I still say Assiniboia Downs was the best location, out of all that were suggested. It's only 10mins from the Old Stadium, and is accessable by he Perimeter, so you won't have to worry about the post-game congestion at Polo Park.
Additionally, I'm sure the government would development a new overpass going to either the Perimeter or portage Av, to ease congestion, since the land is still mostly rural...

I think off the red river, north of the City would be the nicest spot of all. There is a ton of room and it's more of a centralized location. The city is longer east/west than it is north/south so I think you can either take Main all the way out or the perimeter.
Plus it's closer to Transcona. Wait a minute, make it east of the city instead. LOL.
The Bombers being public have to look at cost and they're all penny pinchers, free land makes them ooh and ahh.
