i came across this link andi wanted to post it for its possible application to the new winnipeg stadium. the BC government was apparently looking at this type of roof as a conversion option for BC place stadium. i don't know how true this is (i just heard it from someone) but apparently it was to have cost $25million to install. www.buildingdesignpartnership.com/skylid/default.asplooks like a pretty neat idea.

As much as I'd like to see a retractable roof, the city of Winnipeg could never afford it. Heck, Calgary could never afford it.

but what do you think about the roof itself as a less expensive option for a retractable dome?
i think it would really compliment the style of the original design without having to make too many changes. it would look pretty sweet and would really make winnipeg look big time. i wouldn't mind seeing a few taxpayer dollars kicked into the new stadium if it meant having something like this, something that isn't too crazy in price like skydome or bc place.

If of all places in the world that truly need a dome, it would be Winnipeg, retractable would be so much better, grass field for that football team, more stuff when they don't actually use it for the 12 times a year

BC Place was actually built relatively cheap. Skydome bled the taxpayers white, and was the main reason the ruling party in the provincial governemtn was defeated in the election at the time. I believe the final pricetag for Skydome was in excess of $600 million, instead of the $150 million promised...
