Since we have a new member to this msg. board ("1979") who wants to resurrect the Wpg Fury, I thought it might be a good idea to get even MORE use out of this proposed new stadium and add a pro soccer team there...
I don't follow soccer - is there some kind of pro Canadian league? I don't think there is...
However, hypothetically speaking, if there *was* one, would you like to see a Winnipeg pro soccer team at the new Stadium, in addition to the Blue Bombers?

I would love to see that happen, but it's a longshot at best...

Professional soccer in Canada hasn't proven to be very successful in recent years.
Hell, a Canadian Baseball League couldn't make it work.

Yep; you're right.
The Canadian Baseball League. Geez. What a spectacular failure that was...

I don't know, Hockey, Goldeyes, NLL, Bombers and soccer, spreading the sports dollar pretty thin

not only that but there's not enough support for a soccer team here. Lets see go to a bomber game or go to a soccer game. It'll never happen. Besides who follows soccer anyways. Inless your from Ingland or something.

Inless your from Ingland or something. 1. I follow soccer. In fact, I love watching Euro 2004 and the World Cups. 2. Where is Ingland?

Soccer? Hellz no. I'm gonna have to be a naysayer for this one. We would be pushing the corp dollar a bit much when we will have CFL NHL Northern LEague and Lacrosse. Plus I dont think we would support it enough.

I agree.
We're just not a "soccer city".
I just made the poll to see what everyone thinks.

There's actually a large soccer community in Winnipeg. Take a drive down Corydon anytime Italy is playing a big game, or check out any of the ethnic group's cultural centres during World Cup to see evidence of that.

Yes, but do you think Winnipeg could support a soccer team though? I know we do have a strong soccer community, it is still a pretty popular sport.

Yes, but do you think Winnipeg could support a soccer team though? Doubtful. I don't think Canada could support much of a league these days.

More Canadians participate in soccer than any other sport. However, it may never be a spectator sport in North America.

I suppose so...although WWE Wrestling is one of the most watched sport shows in Canada, how many professional wrestlers do people know on a personal level. I knew one, and he was in Don callis' Wrestling promotion in the late 90's.
