last friday I heard a piece on the radio about the possible location of the new stadium. I didn't catch much of the program but they were talking about twelve possible locations for the stadium. these locations included the RR Ex grounds and two locations downtown (not sure where). i was wondering if anyone else caught the program or had any additonal information on what is going on with the feasibility study.

They seem to be dragging their feet telling the public anything on this, They say word will be out soon. I believe they will shoot for RREX grounds, no where else really makes any sense for them. I don't see a problem with current location, but whatever, I'd drive to Kenora to catch a game. Wish more people in this city would. Then they would have no worries.

it makes no difference where the stadium is built. i will be at every game. they just need to put a winner on the field and the fans will show up.

yeah I read last saturday in the sun they interviewed Lyle Bauer about this and he said downtown is another location.
myself I think somewhere along the river on higgins and water front drive would be a great start in revitalizing that part of main street.
there used to be a time when the stadium was at the great west life building lot. I have been told.

i was also thinking about that waterfront and higgins area. how would that area be for traffic though?? it would get extremely congested wouldnt it? it would sure help liven up the area.

Can west global park flows pretty good considering its current location. U don't need people parked in one area. I see this stadium an anchor to future redevelopments of downtown main street. I think this new stadium would look great along the river and a perfect view of the skyline.

Gee they posted the article again in todays sun
New stadium studiedDowntown not out of question, Bauer says By ROSS ROMANIUK, CITY HALL REPORTER
Lyle Bauer says about a dozen potential sites have been studied for a new stadium location. (MARCEL CRETAIN, SUN files) The Winnipeg Blue Bombers could end up with a new stadium downtown -- but only if it's the right deal for the club and the city, says team president Lyle Bauer.
"We've never been pigeon-holed into one spot," Bauer said yesterday. "It just has to be with the right business model and with revenue streams to support the capital that will be required."
EXHIBITION PARK
A consultant is expected to release a report on as many as a dozen site options in October.
There were suggestions last winter a 30,000-seat stadium would be built for about $90 million at Red River Exhibition Park on the city's western fringe.
That plan included an adjoining 250-room Canad Inns hotel and 40,000-square-foot water park, in addition to exhibition space that would push the price to $165 million.
Bauer doesn't want to be pinned to that project but refused to predict what will come out of the consultant's study, which has a reported cost of about $250,000.
"I'm not going to comment on any locations," said Bauer, a star with the team during the '80s before taking over the top office in 2000.
"There are probably a dozen locations being looked at and evaluated."
It's unclear what downtown sites might be available. A stadium requires more space than a hockey arena, which likely eliminates some of the large parking lots near the convention centre.
"I don't know how you could build a stadium without 30 or 40 acres of land. And you might need 50 acres," said Paul Robson, CEO of the Red River Ex Association.
Mayor Sam Katz was unavailable for comment. Coun. Gord Steeves (St. Vital) likes the idea of a stadium downtown, but said football fans shouldn't expect city hall to foot much of the bill for the project that will cost "huge money" -- unless it involves improving the "utilitarian" stadium at Polo Park.
"I would prefer it closer to downtown," said Steeves, a former draft choice of the Edmonton Eskimos.
While refurbishing Canad Inns Stadium is an option, Bauer said it would likely cost at least $20 million to make the "functionally obsolete" 50-year-old facility workable and comfortable for spectators.
The Bombers will make some upgrades to their home before the Grey Cup is held in Winnipeg next year.
"Our fans deserve better," Bauer said of the stadium. "We have to do some things soon. We have the biggest party in Canada here next year."

I think having the stadium would truely make downtown a better place to hang out. Imagine having 30,000 thousands of people parading portage and main. Having a huge waterpark with the stadium would surely bring more people downtown. Doesn't the city of winnipeg want to make downtown a hub like it once was. this will for sure bring in more shops and restaurants downtown and bring it back to life. even the exchange will greatly benefit from this. One can even taxi boat to the game on the weekend. I would hope the bombers have plans in making a museum much like every new NFL stadium has in theirs it would surely draw more tourist.
email the bombers and your city counsellors to make sure winnipegs downtown prospers ....

I'm not a big fan of having the stadium so far out of the center of the city. When TSN or CBC wants to zoom in, wouldn't it look better if there was a river nearby or something nice? Not the horse track with a bunch of rundown stables beside it. Just doesn't seem right. When I go West of Winnipeg, I feel like I'm in Saskatchewan.

I don't mind where they put the new stadium, downtown or at the RRE is fine with me. Though I am leaning more towards it being at the RRE simply because they have more room to be creative also parking would be excellent. I agree with the fact that when a game is being televised that the skyline of the city or a nearby river would complement the beauty of the new stadium but is there gonna be enough parking and wouldn't traffic be horrible. I would rather spend an extra 10 minutes cruising on the Perimetre than spending it stuck in a jam downtown.
I'll be down at the new stadium at every Bomber home game, no matter where it is.
