has anybody heard anything more on the waterpark they are planning on building? i havent really heard a whole lot on it. i did hear it would only be about 1/4 of the size of west edomontons waterpark. i think they should make it at least 3/4 the size. what do you guys think?

HEEEY Brotha
Not sure. The Stadium and pics are concept. They could dome the Stadium, increase or decrease the waterpark..I am not too sure just yet where their going with it.
One thing for sure. The new Stadiums aerial view is missing only a handle to dub it the "Toilet Bowl."

I agree that the water park has to be of substantial size. Just a thought; why was the city so quick to dismiss the water park idea at the old Barn and now wants to build one in a less accessable area of town away from everything.

I think, Storminj, that a few "guys" got together and said "Well, hell, if your lookin to build a waterpark, lets throw a Hotel in the mix and plant them together with Lyles idea for a new Stadium! Hell, people coming in for games can take their kids to the Waterpark, go upstairs to dry off, and grab a bite, then walk downstairs to their seats to watch the Blue!"
"Hell ya! Great idea! Not enough room or parking at the old arena for that idea though....what about the Red River Ex grounds?"
"Sure my friend! We could all get together and make this one helluva weekend for the whole family all summer! Cha-ching! Cha-ching!"
"Holy Jeez! Ma pockets er so fulla cash its fallin out! Helluvan idea guys! Hey! Lyle! Here.....take soma this! Maybe you could sign a few extra free agents er somethin!"
"Hell, give soma this here cash to those Winnipeg Jet fellows that just set up shop at the MTS Centre! I think they were talkin about signin that Teemu Selanne guy again er somethin?"

Hey remember that Korean dude who cried, when the city said no to building the Water Park at the old arena. I think if that Korean dude heard about this. He'd be happy again. Thoughts?

For size of the waterpark... at many time WEM only uses half of the slides at the mall, and it is only used to capacity during peak periods. Would we really need a waterpark as big as Edmonton's if its not even attached to a shopping mall? The answer is no. However I do think we should make the "worlds largest indoor waterpark" as the title alone will attract people, perhaps start off with the waterpark more standalone, and then develop the area around it as well, creating stores, multiple hotels, etc...

I understand that this waterpark will be expanded in phases when needed. I am starting to think right now a place for a huge waterpark would be nice to have downtown, this would be another way to bring people/tourist downtown throughout the year.

Defently having the waterpark and hotel connectted to the stadium would be the best idea. It would create alot of revenue and maybe make the bombers more competive in free agency instead of always getting outbidded by BC and Edmonton

Canad definitly wanted in one this and why shouldnt they? Their Polo Park hotel was the easy choice for any acts at the Stadium and Arena. Once MTS Centre opend up, they lost that. Losing the Stadium means a loss too. Now, they still will be busy enough with the Airport, but they for sure see the benfit in having a location near the Stadium, especially with a corporate partnership that will all but guarantee ANY act performing at the Stadium must stay in their hotel.
It's a win-win-win for everyone. The location is fine and easy to access on the perimetre highway (and faster to get back to the 'burbs after a game too)

At first I thought an indoor waterpark wouldnt be any good in Winnipeg. Then I took a trip with my wife and 2 year old son to Seven Clans Casino in Theif River Falls. They have an indoor waterpark attached to the hotel with the casino in the basement. I have completely changed my opinion.
My son had a blast and I had a pretty good time too. The waterpark itself is not very big but it had enough to keep the kids happy. The one they propose could stand to be twice as big (higher population in and around Wpg) and I think they would do fantastic business. I could see many families making a day trip or an overnight trip in to Winnipeg for a day or two of fun. Especially in the winter.

It attracts toursists, extra money etc... Plus I dont think (not sure) that any govmt money is going into it, so theres really no cost to the public, except admission if they choose.
