J-Zilla said: They're not a AA baseball team, Zilla. They're "independent"... not an affiliate of any team. It's Winnipeg's own! 100%. Anyways the Goldeyes 2008 schedule is now up at: www.goldeyes.com/pages/schedule/index.asp

This post was originally made by Blackthorne. I just moved it to this thread: Today, Winnipeg's beloved Goldeyes released their 2008 schedule. www.goldeyes.com/pages/schedule/index.aspOfficial news release, courtesy Goldeyes.com: October 24, 2007 Goldeyes On Schedule For 2008 Campaign Winnipeg’s 10th season at CanWest Global Park and 15th in the Northern League will begin on Thursday, May 15 when the Goldeyes host Kansas City to open a seven-game homestand. General manager Andrew Collier announced the team’s 2008 schedule today, one that will see them once more play a 96-game unbalanced schedule. Following the season-opening series with the T-Bones, the Goldeyes welcome Fargo-Moorhead for three before heading out for seven games, the first four in Joliet followed by three in Fargo. The first half ends in Joliet on Sunday, July 6 with the finale of a six-game road trip. League-wide attention will then shift to Winnipeg, where the Goldeyes will host the NL All-Star Game, doing so the first time since 2001. Following the three-day break, Winnipeg welcomes Joliet for four games. The regular season wraps up Sunday, August 31 in Joliet to conclude a six-game road trip. Each 48-game half is split evenly for the Goldeyes between 24 home and 24 road games. On the year, Winnipeg will play 24 three-game series, four four-game series as well four two-game series. Game times for away games along with the exhibition and playoff schedules will be announced at a later date.

Manager Rick Forney coming back for a 3rd season! source: www.goldeyes.com/pages/news/mediaReleases/2007/10-30-2007.aspForney Returns For A Third Season At The HelmLast week, the Goldeyes learned who they will be playing this year. This week, they learned who will be leading them. Team president & CEO Sam Katz announced on October 30 that manager Rick Forney will be back for a third season. He has led the club to playoff spots in each of his two years while compiling a record of 104-87, good for a .545 winning percentage. With two years under his belt, Forney has learned a lot in a very short time. That experience has served him well, but the Goldeyes skipper knows full well he still has a lot to learn. “When you do something for a couple of years, you definitely feel a little more comfortable with what you are going to deal with on a daily basis,” Forney said. “You don't get blindsided as much, so I'd like to think it will be easier, but every day brings new challenges.” Named on November 15, 2005 as the third manager in franchise history, Forney guided the club to a record of 52-44 in his rookie year as the Goldeyes came within a game of knocking out the eventual-league champs from Fargo-Moorhead. Along the way, Major League clubs picked up the contracts of five Winnipeg pitchers. This year, the Goldeyes finished 52-43, this time coming within a game of knocking out the eventual-league champs from Gary. Just last week, the New York Mets purchased the contract of catcher Luis Alen, who was coming off his best year ever.

I love the Goldeyes (been going to games since day 1 back at the Stadium) but I don't like the way the Northern League is looking these days. We need 10 to 12 teams to keep it exciting.

I disagree. You really think having 2 less teams means less excitement?
I foresee many new rivalries for the Goldeyes this upcoming sesason. And like I stated before, much like it's better to have 15,000 fans in a 15,000 seat arena rather than a 20,000-seater, it's better to have 6 strong teams and 0 struggling ones rather than 6 strong teams and 2 on-the-brink-of-folding teams (Calgary, Edmonton).
Regardless of how many teams in the NL, Canwest Global Park will still be "the place to be" in the summertime in the 'Peg, as it's been since May of 1999.

crazycanuck I was at that game to lol, I still have one of those baseballs they gave out. The Goldeye's are a solid orginization in a crappy league, I love going to the games which are very affordable and the calibre of play is exciting even though it is the lowest form of pro baseball. Hopefully the Northern League doesnt fold but if they did I'm sure another league would gladly take them in.

(May 24, 2001) Old Posts I know.....I still see TSN and other networks across North America play that video footage in there top 10's and blooper segments. The reason the Eye's played an ex game vs the Card's way back when, the Eye's used to be the farm team of them I believe. Not really a fan of baseball, but watched the game last night on Shaw.Got to see the first triple play in Eye's history, kinda cool. They are up 2-1 in the series now.

make that 2-2 in the series, i don't understand how we struggle in the playoffs each year, we have a pitcher who used to be in the majors, and we have some of the biggest stars in the league.
Yes we used to be the affiliate of the cards in the northern league.
