Hydro announces building design for new HQ
Manitoba Hydro is right on track with its plans for a new downtown office building.
Today President and CEO Bob Brennan released the design concept for what will be one of the most energy efficient office buildings in the world.
Brennan says the building will feature a tower and podium that will include atriums to provide fresh air, optimization of natural lighting, and a solar chimney for fresh air ventilation.
The next step is to finalize the building's size and cost.
A steel fence already surrounds the building site encompassinga city block on the south side of Portage Avenue between Edmonton and Carlton streets south to Graham.
Construction of the new building is to begin this summer.

Here's just some more information about the Hydro building going up downtown. To bad they didn't build it higher to add more to the city skyline and to bring more people downtown to work. www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=218664

There's a lot more to a downtown than a skyline; how many European cities have skylines? Many cities still have their cathedrals reaching highest into the sky. The Hydro building suits Hydro's needs. Didn't need to go higher because they don't have that many employees. Give me a 20-storey building that fills up most of the block over a 40-storey one that only uses half the block, leaving the other half for parking, etc any day.

That is one dull-looking building. Then what did you expect from Hydro?

Just checking out the skyscraper page and look what the Hydro office was supposed to look like initially. 40 floors with a wind turbine at the top. www.skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=25691I would've added a picture but i don't know how.
