I dont know about you people but i'm sick of spending tax dollors on stupied stuff. Why spend a million dollors on junk downtown (not gonna say what) when it could spent towards an nhl team.

Freeways, a great idea... let's underfund transit to build them, let's make freeways cut through neighbourhoods, effectively cutting them off from each other, making it impossible for kids to visit friends or participate in recreational activities without someone to chauffeur them. While we're at it, let's make it absolutely necessary to drive to pick up that carton of eggs or litre of milk needed for dinner.

Have you ever driven down Lagamodiere and bishop grandin? those are the closeest to freeways we have and theres nothing but traffic light after traffic light. Have you ever been to edmonton? they have an excellent road system in my opinion.

Thanks for the links. The perimeter was a waste of money and there's too many traffic lights in this city.

why did this city build the perimiter hwy instead of making freeways? Now thats a waste of money. The Perimeter was a good idea. At the time it was built, they expected Winnipeg's population to be 850,000 by the year 2000. If that had happened, the Perimeter would be used more frequently. The Perimeter also keeps Semi-Trailers mainly out of the city. Besides, Freeways are overrated anyway...

One thing that bugs me about the perimter is that you can make left hand turns in some places other than intersections. That is crazy! Travelling 110 kms and then someone puts on a signal at the last second. I am surprised there aren't more fatal collisions. One more rant....put over-passes at major intersections.

If the money was there to put overpasses in, I'm sure there would be.

If the money was there to put overpasses in, I'm sure there would be. Well said, MOC.... The city has wanted to do a number of things for the Perimeter: - Make an overpass at Waverley
- Twin the Perimeter from Lagimodiere to Dugald
- Make an overpass at Dugald (Hwy # 15)
- Connect Dakota St to the Perimeter, and build an overpass to reduce congestion
In terms of the inner-Perimeter, here are the long-term plans for Winnipeg: - Extend the Chief Peguis Trail from McPhillips to Lagimodiere, using the Kildonan Corridor
- Twin Plessis through to Bishop Grandin (which would be extended past Lagimodiere)
- Extend Kenaston to the South Perimeter
- Extend Silver Av through to Sturgeon Road
- Extend the Charleswood-Moray Expressway through Wilkes, and have it loop around to connect to the Sterling Lyon Parkway (near Linden Woods)

Exactly. Freeways are great when they serve as freeways, otherwise you're stuck in traffic, defeating the whole purpose.

Exactly. Freeways are great when they serve as freeways, otherwise you're stuck in traffic, defeating the whole purpose. The thing I like about Edmonton Freeways is they don't cut through Downtown. The Whitemud connects Sherwood Park to the West Edmonton Mall, and the Yellowhead acts as a by-pass.
