WHAT MANITOBA NEEDS
A blue-ribbon panel of 10 business leaders -- including Hartley Richardson, president and CEO of James Richardson & Sons Ltd., Art Defehr, president of Palliser Furniture, and Gerry Price, president and CEO of E. H. Price -- will tell you what Manitoba needs to do to break through the economic paralysis it finds itself in and reach something closer to its full potential.
It's about making Manitoba a better and more prosperous place to live and do business.
What the series isn't is a glorification and exaggeration of the small economic gains Manitoba has made in recent years, or the self-delusional pap that this province is actually "booming." I'll leave that to others.
This is about fundamentally changing how Manitoba views free enterprise, to harness the entrepreneurial spirit we have in Manitoba rather than continually thwarting it with unnecessary roadblocks.
Let's face it, compared with many other jurisdictions in North America, Manitoba is not seen as a friendly place to do business. And we're going to have to change that, not by "re-branding" ourselves but by doing the hard work necessary to provide real evidence that we're open for business.
Strap yourself in. You're in for a very interesting ride.
