Skywalk network fully open
I'm enjoying it very much: senior

Margaret Robinson doesn't worry about the weather when she heads out on her walk -- the 84-year-old uses the overhead walkways that connect her Colony Street apartment with Portage and Main. "I've come several times because I find it attractive. I'm enjoying it very much," Robinson said as she had her daily stroll, assisted by a walker, along the upper concourse of the MTS Centre recently.
"I can walk to The Bay and Winnipeg Square. There'll be more walking when we get the (Manitoba) Hydro building."
Closed during construction of the downtown arena, the city's skywalks became fully usable again on Nov. 15 when the sections between the arena, City Place, and Portage Place re-opened.
A lifetime Winnipeg resident, Robinson likes what she sees happening in the heart of the city. And she's happy to see the statue of Timothy Eaton watching over passersby in the second-level walkway at MTS Centre.
"It's nice they kept history," she said.
The statue honouring the founder of the defunct Eaton's chain stands metres from its former place of honour in the downtown store where people met for more than 70 years.
"I would come here as a little girl with my grandmother," said Ruth Murray of Morris. "It was so exciting. It was an outing."
"I heard it was good luck to rub his toe," fellow Morris resident Jeanette Bergstresser said as she did just that. "I'm so excited to see him."
