Since about half of the city's garbage collection is already privatized...why not just privatize the rest...Other cities in Canada are going private too..for example Edmonton. This would be one less thing for city taxpayers to worry about.

Garbage privatization decision pushed ahead The idea has not been completely trashed, but it will be a couple of months before Winnipegers find out whether garbage collection will be privatized in Winnipeg. CJOB News is told the report that was set to be unveiled this fall won't be out until February or March. It will explore whether to contract out the rest of Winnipeg's garbage pick-up or use other money saving options. About half of the city's garbage collection is already privatized. Waste management does most of its' collection in the north end. The privitization plan which officials thought would save three million dollars was hatched under the former mayor. So far it doesn't seem Sam Katz has made up his mind saying they're looking at a variety of options.
