City's capital budget in the works Sewer system upgrades and the Kenaston underpass are the highlights of Winnipeg's new Capital Budget unveiled this morning at city hall.
Councillors are planning to spend about 300-million dollars on Capital projects in 2005. More than half of that is going towards projects that are not that visible, like water and sewer upgrades. The city plans to spend 78-million dollars on sewer projects, alone, thanks to recommendations from the Clean Environment Commission.
The most visible project will be the Kenaston underpass. Construction is scheduled to start in the spring, and this year the city is planning to spend about 28-million dollars on the project.
The draft budget document will be put to public debate over the next few weeks. It's scheduled to be passed December 13th.

CITY MAKES WATER PRIORITY The city plans on spending $1.3 billion in the next 6 years on capital projects. Much of the money will go toward sewer and water upgrades. Here's a breakdown: $370 million for the sewage disposal system $249 million for the water system(including new water treatment plant) $246 million for streets and bridges $147 million for land drainage and flood control $109 million for the transit system and bus replacement $64 million for community parks and facilities and other community services The capital budget has not been approved by city council. When it is, the first year spending will be adopted by council and the five year forecast adopted in principal. www.cky.ctv.ca/

Thanx Go Moose for posting this stuff I really appreciate it.
I am glad the city is using its brains in putting money in water/sewer utility. This does include new water pipes, right? I wonder when the city is gonna go full steam ahead in having underground hydro.
