How do you all feel about there being a deal in place before the draft?
I posted on TSN.ca that I feel that the players would have the upper hand if the owners wanted to have a deal in place before this.
The owners are telling the players the economical suffering the league has had and will have due to this lockout but the players don't care.
They know in the back of their heads, or at least they should that they are paid too much, that although the owners went crazy a decade ago, that doesn't mean that the league is healthy to support these salaries now.
As many people have put it, there must be a much lower salary cap than the players want. Even lower than the last owners proposal.
I know we all want the Jets but if Chipman says the only way is with a 30 million dollar cap, then he'll never have the Jets play here as long as he's in control. Of course the cap ceiling would never be this low and the basement would never be this high.
I think a league minimum shouldn't even be thought of. If a team wants to spend 10 bucks on all their players, let them. If they fold, let them.
A team could make a start at 20 million with a lot of young guys wanting to play, if they season right, then that team salary could go up to 30 million and could be supported because they would be winning more and keeping support at a high level.
The owners know what it will take to have the cap they want, which will only last a few years anyways. Replacement players. If deals go through that can allow all the teams to have them, then that will force the PA to cave in, and that would happen. If a judge stops replacement players, then the NHL will have to cave.
I want to see the NHL again, I also want to see the NHL in Winnipeg again. But, the first has to happen to even think about the second. Come on NHL and NHLPA, start the talking.
