Obituary.
On February 15th 2005, the NHL passed away. Despite last minute attempts to survive, the condition worsened and everyone decided it was time to pull the plug on the life support.
The NHL leaves behind hundreds of thousands of loyal fans. Fans who promoted good health, but never got to see it. Fans who loved with a deep passion, but never felt that love returned. Honourable fans. Knowledgable fans. Good fans, even if some of them were Toronto Maple Leaf fans.
The NHL will be missed, but dear loved ones can look forward to the day when justice will be served. Wanted in the death of the NHL is Gary Bettman, Bob Goodenow and numerous gold-digging bandits who travel in the same group.
R.I.P NHL. You'll forever have a place in our hearts and memories.

Don't write off the NHL season yet, fellas.
Expect hard negotiations later this morning as the deadline nears ever closer.
I believe that Brian Burke had a good point earlier tonight on SportsCentre. The league should go up to a $44,000,000-$45,000,000 salary cap. This close enough to the middle, but not too high on the other side of the median from the original offers.
I'd have to look at any numbers Darren might've crunched already, but remember this is the maximum spenditures. If the new Winnipeg Jets spend at most between $35-40 million, it's not far from the top where the "wealthier" teams' limits to spend are.
Anything above $47 million is too high, in my opinion. True, you guys north of the border have to deal with exchange rates and taxes, so without question the closer to the NHL's original $42,500,000 salary cap offer, the better.
Early on Monday night, ESPNEWS interviewed Edmonton Sun columnist Terry Jones and he said that the revenue sharing plan of a new CBA is so vital to the survival of the Oilers. With their $28 million payroll last season, getting into at least the middle part of the team payroll range in the new CBA with a strong revenue sharing plan will be quite helpful.
As for the comments that a 28-game season schedule is not worth it... I was against it unless it was 36-41 games awhile ago, but I've softened my stance. Basically, 2 games against each intraconference opponent is fair enough to determine who goes to the postseason and who doesn't under these circumstances. Every single game would be meaningful before playing a full 4-round/at most 28-game postseason for the champion.
The media here in the United States FINALLY has gone nuts with the hockey coverage the last three days since Sunday. Whether there's a season or not, people believe it means the difference between a disaster and road to recovery.
Either way, it's going to take a while to win back some of the fans on both sides of the border thanks to this lockout and what led up to this point. A cancelled season will do further damage and in my mind and might not necessarily increase the chances of getting back the Jets anyway. So even if the season is saved, it still can help their chances if the major players in Winnipeg once they see how the CBA works out and if the league begins to recover as we hope...

I agree we'll see a new league. But, XHL? Keith Tkachuk- "They Hate Me" Vince McMahon will start it up too eh? In order to score, the goalie has to be body checked out of the crease. No pads or anything.
