I know a lot of people are asking, "what can be acomplished by having this meeting?"
Well, I think if both sides take both options into consideration be it a Cap and Revenue sharing. They can see which ways it will all work. This could go a long way to fix things.
However, if the owners go dead set against everything and have no fix then I believe the players could get an edge in fan support.
I do wish the owners would stop saying, We need cost certainty and actually show ways on how to fix the league. I also wish the union would stop being against something that could save the league.
It is true that the league will go bankrupt if it continues this way, but they can't go to such an extreme and make cost certainty that harsh as they're saying.
World War 2 couldn't stop the NHL Playoffs, but ego's in 2005 can.

Thanks. I'm actually going to put that as my sig. Hehehe. It really does sum it all up doesn't it?
Anyways, from what I heard, there isn't much talk about what happened but the fact that there is another meeting tomorrow in Toronto means that there is at least hope for something to work out. If not to save the season, then at least to have one come september.

The players will accept a soft cap tied to a luxury tax (and other penalties) with significant revenue sharing, lower age of free agency, increase in minimum wage and arbitration (which can't tie a team to a player if the ruling puts them over the cap).
That would be a win-win. Anything that lets a team have a 35 million to 50 million payroll is hope for the jets.

50 million is a bit much.... The Jets could not afford anything over a 35 million dollar payroll. If the Oilers cant do it, then neither could we since we are a slightly smaller market with a smaller arena. Any "cap" under 40 million works IMO, since the Jets could keep their payroll at 25-35 million (depending if cap has a min sal.) and then still remain competitive. A 50 million dollar cap wouldnt work well for the league because you would still have huge disparities in salaries between teams, having teams like the Rangers and etc... spending too much and buying out players.

The fact is, the big money in WPG just might have to compete at a higher level then they want if they really want the NHL back.
Also consider, if the cap is 35 million this season, it will grow. It will eventually be 50 million and then 60 million etc. But that means revenue is growing too.
Darren had some good numbers indicating gate receipts alone could generate 50 million +. If they can cover payroll off the gate, there are so many other revnenue sources to cover everything else. Local TV deals for one. Corporate sponsors for another. Radio rights. League TV is another source that has nowhere to go but up and could one day be a significant source of revenue (it's what made the NFL cap go from 30 million to 90 million).
Also take into account revenue sharing. If that injects another 5-10 million dollars into the Jets coffers, then we can afford to bump up the payroll significantly. And the NHL's Canadian Stablization Fund (which is not needed too much right now).
Remember, i love the Jets too, but having them and having them be successful are two different things. Winnipeg does not support losing franchises.

No Winnipeg will support a losing Francise we all learned from the past and when we get the Jets back it wont matter if there winners or losers for the first couple of seasons. will be greatfull to have a team back here and people will go if they win or lose. Look at Columbus they lose all the time and there arena is sold out everynight.
