I think that the NHLPA should call a vote to see who is actually supporting Goodenow's no salary cap plan.
I believe that more than 50% of the players are not supporting his plan and that many would accept a salary cap.
We should all email major sports networks and the NHLPA and owners and tell them we want a vote from the players since it's them who puts the fans in the stands. It's all a PR thing and the Union is still not supported. No one thought that the offer they put on the table would work.
Why can every other league work under a cap except the NHL?
Does anyone know how hard it is to make the NFL and sometimes the CFL ? Or perhaps MLB ? NBA ? Yet the NHLPA thinks that their players have some magical power that allows them not to have a cap?
Up here in Canada, Hockey rules, but there are only 6 Canadian teams compared to what the USA has. Also, only a fraction of Americans like hockey. USA is Football country. The point is that the NHL can't afford to pay their players NFL type salaries because they don't get that many fans willing to pay those prices. You can to look at revenues to expenses. A Judge should look at the teams and tell both sides what can work. I don't think the NHL should run rough over the players but there has to be some point where both can prosper.
I don't support Bettman because he's an idiot and I hate him for not even knowing what sport he runs. He's messed up the game and the owners have went stupid nuts on paying big salaries. Only in Canada do people miss hockey, yet we're shunned. I know that Bettman had said no hockey in Winnipeg, and then he sort of reversed it, but he's still an idiot.
Also, bring an arbitrator in and settle it that way. What does the NHL owners have to lose? We all know the mediator would give a cap, it might not be good enough for the Jets to come back, but we'll at least have NHL to watch, not that hack sub par garbage the "MINNESOTA" Moose play.
Then finally at last, the Winnipeg Jets can come back. I still think we should just buy Pheonix, no one there would miss them anyways.
