The thing I hate the most is that some of them have the nerve to say "Oh no I'm not getting paid, I'm gonna have a tough time paying off my car payments and house bills." Think about all the arena workers and staff you are putting out of work, you greedy bastards.
Bryan McCabe had the worst comment. He said "We have to win this negotiation to make sure future players can earn a decent living." I guess 1.8 million dollars a year is not enough.

McCabe's an idiot. He (like most other NHL'ers) are all about themselves. I hope the good majority of these guys that went to play in Europe, end up staying there. That would help bring down salaries.

So when the league has replacement players next year, how long do you think it will take the NHL players playing overseas to ask for more money from their European team?
Maybe it will take them bankrupting two leagues before they see what's going on.

its sad we'll have no cup winner this year for the first time since what 1918.and a championship team from (yuk)florida is what we have to remember?somebody's (hockey Canada maybe?)gotta take the cup away from the nhl, legally .that would probably get the talks going.

Well, that would be awesome if we could take the Cup away from the NHL. Then we could just form a brand new league with new teams, and best of all the Winnipeg Jets! (and NO GARY BETTMAN!)

The Moose are a pretty good team this season. They could make a serious run for a championship. If they win it all and there is no NHL....do we win Stanley? 'cause we would be (or whoever wins in AHL)the champions of North America....

Personally I think we should just steal the Stanley Cup from the NHL and start a new league. Force a salary cap, and if the players dont like it they can stay in Europe.

This lockout makes me sick. Why can't the players just accept the freaking cap. The way I see it, they make a ridiculous amount of money, and with a salary cap they will still make a ridiculous amount of money. I make about $20,000 a year, and I consider myself to make a decent living. I realize this is a business and the players don't want a pay cut, but it's still a freaking GAME!!! This is hockey for christ sakes! If there is a cap of $35 million per team, say $5 mil. is spent on minor league players, scratches ect... then that $30 mil. divided up amongst 9 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies, for a total of 17 players. If the share nicely, that could be 1'764'705.88 per player a year. Which might I add is about 85 times more then I make a year in my "decent living". but wouldn't be enough for Brian McCabe to make a decent living. Yeah right. Think of the kids growing up playing minor hockey this year. Imagine the nightmares they will have when they hear, that if they are the best on their team, they might only be able to make 6 million a year.... "Only 6 million a year daddy? How can I live a "decent" life with that? Pfft... Screw hockey, I'm gonna be janitor..." Go Jets Go, I'd pay to skate out into a sold out MTSC wearing my trusty #93 Winnipeg Jets Jersey. I realize the owners are at fault too, but they OWN the team. It's a business for them, they should be making a Go Jets Go load of money not losing it. I think a CAP is reasonable. Owners make a Go Jets Go Load of money, players make a Go Jets Go load of money, and perhaps we can watch back where it belongs... back here in the PEG!!! I am indeed "Sick of Millionaires". Another rant courtesy of the J-Man.

Millionaire hockey players are why the NHL is not here. The average salary will have to under the million dollar range to make the NHL work in Winnipeg.

First off the owners are to blame for the downfall of the NHL. The richer teams were outbidding the poorer teams for talent an thus the agents for the talented players were poning the teams against each other. Thus in turn rising the salaries of players.
I wonder how much of the salary an NHL player really keeps? You have taxes, agent fees, lawyers, etc.
A player should only be paid $100k/yr and the team should pay for his moving expenses if traded from team to team and health benefits and long term injury benefits.

No it's not. The Stanley Cup is a challenge trophy. It's property of the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Stanley Cup was a challenge trophy, unfortunately the NHL has the legal rights to the cup.

Can you blame the players and agents for getting as much as they can. Its the owners who ultimatley end up paying them. The owners have put themselves into this position.
Are these players worth that amount of money? No. But as long as they ask for it and the owners provide it then we come to a point in the game as we are today. The shoulda smartend up a few years ago. If I were in there shoes I'd be asking for the big contracts too.

The only one with outright ownership is Sir Frederick Arthur, Lord Stanley of Preston, who paid $48.67 for the thing back in 1892. And, he's dead.
It was intended originally to be presented "to the championship hockey club of the Dominion of Canada." And, last time I checked, Tampa Bay wasn't in Canada.
Times change. And, so have the rules for Stanley's mug. For years, it was a challenge trophy for amateurs, with trustees deciding who those challengers might be. About 1910, it became emblematic of the world championship in hockey -- as decided by teams in the National, Pacific Coast and Western Canada pro leagues. It wasn't until 1926, when the other leagues folded, that it became the sole preserve of the NHL.
If the NHL could get sole possession due to lack of interest it can lose it the same way. If the NHL and its players take away hockey, maybe we can take away their Cup?
In 1947 there was a formal agreement between the trustees whereby the league was delegated the full authority ... making the Stanley Cup a competition for NHL teams. You can check it in Total Hockey, 2nd Edition. Page 355. But wait...!
The text goes on: "the agreement shall remain in force so long as the league continues to be the world's leading professional hockey league as determined by it's playing calibre, and in the event of dissolution or other termination of the National Hockey League, the Stanley Cup shall revert to the custody of the trustees."
It wouldn't take a Johnnie Cochrane to argue that a strike or lockout could be seen as "other termination". Not to mention, if they're not playing, the NHL can hardly be "the world's leading professional hockey league." And, if they're not competing, NHL teams are forfeiting their claim to the Cup.

Sick? You betcha!!
Cap the pay at exactly 1 million!!! If I can live on $30kCAN I suspect a million shouldnt be a problem.
What gets me is this $10k/month lockout pay. Do you know how much beer and chicken wings that could buy? With lots left over for a nice car and a mortgage and 2.2 kids.
GO JETS GO!!! GO NORDS GO!!!
