I bet that all the Canadian teams combined make more money then every team in the US. The only thing that makes the states look good for hockey is New York and Detroit. Highly doubt that, but anyway who cares Toronto makes a ton of money, but I bet the other 5 Canadian teams combined don't make as much money (profit) as Toronto. Montreal with their high taxes barely breaks even, and the rest will make a small profit at best

Why wouldent they the NHL owns the rights to the Jets name. The NHL owns the rights to the Jets name, BT. So we can have it back if we were to land a NHL franchise.

I'm not BT but it's alright. I may say stuff that is way off line sometimes but thats because I'm so passionate about the Jets and want them back so bad.

say the penguins (or any other team) move here will they be named the jets, the same , or somathing completely different? I personally would want the jets but would the nhl/phoenix allow it? Chipman (or whatever Ownership group) would have to purchase the name "Winnipeg Jets" from the NHL if they wanted to keep the name. Not sure of the cost of re-acquiring the name but the other option is to just have a whole new name altogether. Personally, the fans and the City are still very much attached to the name 'Winnipeg Jets', that I can't see it being called anything else.

All of the three recent deals (Sens, Sabres, Ducks) have been for US$60 Million regardless of Forbes' estimates of their value. The Lauries are asking US$150 Million for the Blues and a lease at Savvis Center, and the result is two exclusive discussion agreements expired (Dave Checketts, Andy Appleby). Reality check ...

Wow, I actually agree with you guys on this. It's been a while since that's happened... I don't think Mario would be selling if he was confident that the slots licence were going to be signed. It would(should) be so easy to sell out and make money in a new arena, and he must not think that it is going to happen. I took a look at alt.sports.hockey.nhl.pit-penguins on USENET and they are buzzing about PA Governor Ed Rendell getting a huge donation from the folks behind Station Square, a competing casino proposal to Isle of Capri and the Penguins. SS once said that they'll donate up to $100 Million towards a new arena, roughly a third of the projected cost, not a whole facility. If Mario thinks that the fix is in, or is trying to expose any quid pro quo for Rendell, that may be a reason for the sudden move to sell. Rendell comes out of Philadelphia and has mostly paid attention to the eastern part of the state, according to disaffected westerners (PA, not CA ). Here's an article from a fan's blog with news references: www.sugapablo.net/story.php?id=293The link to the Pittsburgh Tribune's article on Governor Rendell advising the Pens to develop a Plan B sounded familiar ... www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/trib/pittsburgh/s_415951.html... oh yeah, when someone tells me, "We should start seeing other people!"
