Tonight there were 12,700 people at the MTS Centre to watch a women's exhibition Olympic hockey game; Team Canada VS. the USA.
Let me repeat that: 12,700 people at the rink in Winnipeg for an exhibition hockey game with female hockey players. On NEW YEAR'S DAY- a day in which most of the planet is hungover as f*ck and most don't want to leave the comfort of their bed.
Now then, if tonight's exhibition game had been held in Kansas City or Houston, would more than 1,000 fans have showed up? I highly doubt it.
We are 100X better a hockey city than K.C. and Houston. Which is why we'd be 100X better a place to place an NHL team.
Which is why the next NHL team will go to Winnipeg.

If KC gets a team before us, the NHL is clearly f**ked!

You're right Joel! Granted, HOCKEY is the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear "Kansas City", but STILL! I just don't think they can support a team.

Wow!
I couldnt believe it either when I saw how many were there for the game!
I didnt think they would even draw 10,000, I guess I have underestimated how hockey mad we are.

Women's exhibition hockey attracts TWICE the number of fans we usually get for Vancouver Moose games.
I think that says how desperate Winnipeg is for some kind... ANY kind.. of alternative to AHL hockey.

This game drew huge ratings on TSN - almost 400,000 viewers, which is enormous for women's hockey.
Looks good on us to have a full house seen coast-to-coast.

No it wasn't.
And not 1 person even cared.
lol... ya think ESPN was flooded with calls from angry American sports fans because a women's exhibition hockey game wasn't televised?

The USA women went on to lose their next game to the Warroad boys high school team, that made news in the States link? It was in the Free Press, but check out ESPN.com in their olympic coverage (hockey section), the story is there as well. Also, I know people from Warroad and they told me it was 2-1, and there was no hitting allowed
