I can't find any other sources on this, so I'd consider it a rumour (I sound like Eklund!): www.hadleyonsports.com/getReport_affiliate.php?sport=hadley&type=newsletter&name=F0928214704&size=595DAVE CHECKETTS TO BUY BLUES AND SAVVIS CENTER AS FIRST REPORTED BY KTRS (THE BIG 550) AND KMOV (STEVE SAVARD)... DAVE CHECKETTS HAS ENTERED INTO A LETTER OF AGREEMENT TO BUY THE ST. LOUIS BLUES AND THE SAVVIS CENTER. CHECKETTS HAS NHL EXPERIENCE WITH THE NEW YORK RANGERS, HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE RANGERS, KNICKS, MSG, AND WAS A DRIVING FORCE BEHIND MSG NETWORK. CHECKETTS WAS ALSO PRESIDENT OF THE UTAH JAZZ. CHECKETTS AND HIS GROUP ARE CONSIDERED A PERFECT FIT FOR THIS ORGANIZATION.

Hey the Rangers never won a thing for 54 years and none since then, let them have their moment of glory whatever the cost was. Any New Yorker who cares about hockey will likely tell you it was worth it.

Well I guess he had money and brains. The new Ranger owners just have money. But they hired one of the greatest hockey minds of all time in Glen Sather! He seems to have tarnished his legacy by going there. Granted he was a good coach in Edmonton, but it was his scouts (especially Barry Fraser) that found all those great players

Sounds like some bitter feelings from an Islanders fan yes bought the cup. how do you think things got so bad so quick.the rangers are probably like 50% responsible for the salaries getting out of control.but im not bitter. almost all of my buds are ranger fans (yuk)andbig chris nailed it .they all will gladly admit it and to them it was worth it. if you wanted to see bitter you should ve been in ny when the isles were a dynasty.the ranger fans were lemons!!and our rivalry is healthy because we had the dynasty, and they clobbered us en route to the 94 cup (series score 4 games -none like 25 goals to about 6 it was a massacre.after they wiped us out i KNEW they were gonna win it all.like we were their demon and once they beat us they were free.isles /rangers is one of the best rivalries in hockey.up there with calgary/edmonton and toronto/ottawa.

Um... (Detroit vs Toronto) is more of a rival through history and also (Boston vs Montreal) too. (Winnipeg vs Calgary) was better too when we used to exist.

that lease agreement with the savvis center is bad. if the blues continue to draw 12-13,000 then the franchise is toast.
btw, what happened to their 19,000 fans per game. did pronger mean that much to the franchise ?

The Blues could move but I dont think there is ever a chance of any team simply just "folding." The league will buy the franchise before ever lettting it fold, ala Buffalo, Ottawa or even MLBs Expos. If im not mistaken the guy that tried to move the Blues to Saskatoon had something 18,000 season tickets already sold but the NHL put a stop to it do to the small population and lack of any solid corporate presence in the area. A Saskatoon/Regina franchise would probably be the Green Bay Packers of the NHL but I doubt we'll ever see that happen.
