And Atlanta will fail again..... Let's hope so. Atlanta just isnt that good of a sports town. Even last year the Falcon's werent selling out all of their home games. Hawks, Thrasher's....lol. Even the Braves games that are on all the time on TNT show alot of empty seats in that stadium. Atlanta along with Phoenix are probably the two worst sports towns in North America. It was a mistake to put NHL teams in either market...

On another note winnipeg is NOT hosting a pre-season game. Only 9 NHL Clubs are having pre-season games out of their home arenas. Vancouver is not one of them.
There will however be a pre-season game in Grand Forks N.D. for those interested in checking a Wild game out.
Friday Sept 23rd: Florida vs. Minnesota at Grand Forks, N.D., 8:30 p.m.

Being from KC, I can say the last few comments pretty much hit the nail on the head. The Royals have fallen into utter disarray ever since the '94 strike, and, save the '03 campaign in which we were in first place for more than half the season, attendance has been pretty dismal. About this time every year, people pretty much forget about the Royals and tune in to the Chiefs (and area high school football). As long as David (Gl)Go Jets Go is our owner (think the baseball version of Donald Sterling), the Royals will likely be a doormat for a LONG time (or until they're contracted/relocated/sold).
I'm not totally sure NHL would work here (at least not better than the 'Peg or Houston); the Blades had decent attendance numbers when they were here, but not like they're drawing in places like Houston, OKC, or up there. We'd probably average ~14K/game (in an 18K arena instead of 15K), except when the Blues come to town, then more than half the seats would be filled with Blues fans, like the Cardinals fans do now at the "I-70 series" games.
We should *definitely* not get a team before Winnipeg (or Houston).

To be honest, I'd rather see a hockey team in KC than Carolina, Nashville, Anaheim, Phoenix, Miami, Tampa, or Atlanta. I just don't want KC to get an NHL team before Winnipeg...

That event in a way is still killing baseball much like the 95' lockout killed the NHL and continued to haunt it up till 2004. Not untill we have teams in Winnipeg, Hartford and Quebec City will the true hockey fans have total justice. Back to Kansas City......It's a great town. Great food, nice people, you cant say enough nice things about the city overall. No I don't think KC should be considered any time in the near future for an NHL franchise but that isnt meant to be a knock against the city or its people. I do however agree with Joel.....I would rather see a team in KC than I would in Nashville, Carolina, Anaheim, Florida or Atlanta. At least you would see a possible rivalry between St.Louis and KC.

Total BS! They even have NHL21 set up already to buy a team. They are far ahead of us. Looks like they surpassed us. Now we're third in line: Houston Kansas City Winnipeg Not to mention portland has been in the running since 2000, but they found out for themselves they were a little to late. BTW: I'm not to good with american geography, but is Kansas city in missouri or kansas state?

A crowd of 12,686 were attendance for the neutral site preseason match-up in Kansas City. After regulation play ended, a shootout exhibition took place and was won by the Predators, 1-0. The new feature, which had no bearing on Saturday night's outcome, is now being used by the National Hockey League to decide tie games. No players scored in the first three rounds. Predators Upshall, Scott Hartnell and Robitaille were stopped by Lalime. For St. Louis, Dallas Drake and Doug Weight both missed the net on their attempts and Mason stopped Scott Young. Blues defenseman Andy Roach's attempt went off Mason's blocking glove to start the sudden-death fourth round, setting the table for a shootout-winning tally by Simon Gamache.
Excerpt from the Predators website... So attendance was 12,686

I'm actually fairly unimpressed by that... for a city trying to attract an NHL team, I would have expected a sellout.
Of course, we didn't sell out our last exhibition game, either ;D
