Ok Houston is going to get a team if the NHL has any sense in them. They have a huge population base and it makes sense for a team to move there. Yes I want a team back in Winnipeg badly but if your the owner of one of the struggling franchises who you going to go to? Houston will get a team and it will be a success and hopefully Winnipeg will get one to.

Don't Miami, Phoenix and Atlanta have huge population bases compared to Winnipeg? It seems like this argument is always used when potential sites for an NHL franchise is considered. Haven't we already determined that it's not the size of the population that necessarily makes the difference but the number of hockey fans in that population? As far as 'new' and 'spectacular' arenas go, most of the southern based NHL teams already have those and yet they are having problems filling them for hockey. You know that you are in 'hockey country' when your team can average 13,500 in an old rickety building in minus thirty temperatures. Just think of the potential for an NHL franchise in the new state-of-the-art MTS Centre (even if it's not the Xcel Centre or the 'Ralph')!

Hartford isn't even talking about a new arena. The NHL isn't coming back to Hartford anytime soon. Drop it already. This is a "Return of the Jets" website and I'm sick of hearing about this irrelevant garbage. It's great to see blackthorne back on the board ;D

Haven't we already determined that it's not the size of the population that necessarily makes the difference but the number of hockey fans in that population? True. However, hockey has been tried, and suceeded in Houston. The WHA Aeros were a sucess, but the owner jumped the gun in 1978, and gave the NHL an ultimatium: move the Aeros to the NHL, or I will fold the team. It was a terrible move, in retrospect, since just one year later, the NHL admitted the Jets, Oilers, Whalers, and Nords. What's ironic is the Aeros were assured the 5th spot if they had been patient... Miami never had pro hockey, and never deserved a team from the getgo. Phoenix had a WHA team for 2 years, before folding. Atlanta had the NHL Flames for 8 years, with dismal attendance, before relocating to Calgary.

For some reason, unlike other places in southern USA, Texans really seem to like ice hockey. I'm not a big fan of the 5 teams within Florida and Cali, nor do I think Raleigh should have a team but those crazy Texans seem to really like the sport so I'm all for giving Houston a chance.

I can't figure that out either why Texas like hockey.
though it would make a good instant rivalry with dallas and have some good old tailgate parties.
The aeros have always been a success since the wha to IHL/AHL.
I definately think Phoenix is oversaturated with sports.
Houston beeing the 4th biggest city in USA will they support another pro sports team is another question and are they oversaturated with pro-sports teams like phoenix? Who knows. Perhaps 2 teams in the south east with merge as one and relocate to Houston.
THen we get the other southern belt team. so u have 2 teams with a jets emblem on them. How cool is that. Kinda ironic isn't it.
