I can't see the city funding a brand-new NHL rink after they helped build new facilities for the Pirates and Steelers.
But imagine if they moved to Houston instead of Winnipeg? How ticked off would everyone in Canada be?

I can only imagine.. but atleast the state of Texas supports their hockey so I wouldn't be totally miffed. Had they gone to somewhere like Providence or Portland then I'd be right p*ssed. There are enough struggling teams to go around so I wouldn't be too worried of us not getting one.

Bonkers, where do you get "Pittsburgh being gone"?
You cannot make a statement like that without actual facts to back up this claim. Especially at this point in time.
Secondly, what is going on in Pittsburgh hasn't come to a conclusion. When all possibilities to keep the Penguins there are indeed exhausted... THEN you can say, the Penguins are out of there.
Right now, that city and the state of Pennsylvania are in the middle of figuring out how to raise funds where a portion would go toward the costs of building the new arena. The one likely feasible option remaining would be from portions of revenues generated from casinos to be built in the Pittsburgh area.
If all that falls through, the Penguins would be the expected frontrunning candidate for relocation... perhaps to Winnipeg, who knows.

He doesn't have "hard" facts, but it is true that they just built a state of the art ball park and then made modifications to Heinz Field. I'm not sure how much more money Pittsburgh or even the state of Pennsylvania have left to fund the Penguins.

my understanding is that the penguins need to acquire the one slots licence available in pittsburgh in order to finance a new arena.
although if i was lemieux and got the casino licence, i'd say screw penguins hockey, i'm getting rich from gambling, baby !!!!

Hopefully when the Jets return it will be the Pittsburgh Penguins club that moves here. That would be sweet seeing as how I have been a Pens fan for over 15 years.
GO PENS GO!

The city of Pittsburgh doesn't have the extra money to help fund the arena. This is why there have been setbacks in Mario Lemieux trying to get this done.
Yup, you are correct, sir!

Poor guys, i hope they get to keep a team.

i would also be sad to see the penguins move unless it was to winnipeg. As long as we get the Jets back, I don't care where they come from. However, it would be sweet if we could land one of those teams from NASCAR country (Nashville, Carolina, Atlanta, etc)

the relocation must be from dixie.to move a buffalo or a pittsburg would be an insult with the sunbelt teams still around( kinda like moving a team from winnipeg to phoenix.)atlanta,carolina.florida,tampa,nashville,anaheim,phoenix,washington are all a smear on the nhl's complexion.they have to go.fold 6 of them move the other two to winnipeg and either hamilton or quebec. on a side note.i'm interested to see how well dallas does l after this lockout.i think they too may start down the road to ruin.that's just a hunch though.anyone think milwaukee could support a team?it's a fairly large city.they would have instant rivals in chicago and minnesota.i'd rather they got a team than houston.

Milwaukee not sure if it works in hockey. IMO from what I witnessed pro sports teams in that city haven't been very successfull.

Save the Pens! Give Mario his Hot Slots (lol) and start moving the southern teams northbound.

The Wisconsin Badgers college team pack the arena every game. At one time, the city of Milwaukee was a front-runner for an expansion team. It's too bad they were passed over for teams in Tampa Bay, Miami, and Anaheim...

Hey man, I'd be all for Pittsburgh coming here. My new favorite team since the Jets left replacing the void. Alexei Morozov, Konstantin Koltsov, Kris Beech, Ben Eaves, Colby Armstrong, Marc-André Fleury, Ryan Stone... heck yes! I'd have no problem supporting that up and coming talent! ;D

Not only that, but pitts has ALOT of hardcore hockey fans... They would be as livid as winnipeg if they lost their team. Poor guys, i hope they get to keep a team. Have to disagree a little..... Before Lemieux came out of retirement only 6-8 thousand fans were showing up for the games that year. Thats why Mario came back. In both Winnipeg and Hartford around 12-13 thousand fans would show up for their teams during losing seasons and no superstars to watch.
