How long do you think before we try acquiring an nhl team?
I mean it seems to me most of the teams will be ready to go after the first year back on the ice but this lockout seems to take forever... so i was wondering when do you all think or how much time will it be before we get rewarded?

...again, it depends on the CBA. If it turns in favor of a cap, or the league slams one in place using replacement players, then it is possible that within a year or two after the new CBA, a team will relocate to our city.
If not, I am a strong believer that no matter what happens with the CURRENT CBA, we will eventually get an NHL team here. It is inevitable. We are a Canadian City on an economic upward swing. The city is going thru a revival of key sectors and alot of economic development. People are starting to re-consider moving away from Winnipeg. Current stats from City Hall indicate that Winnipeg will increase in size by another 100,000 people in the next decade. These stats could see a decided upswing, should we land the team sooner. It would likely create an additional 600 jobs, and further economic development and property leasing close to the new MTS Centre. I see it happening no matter what. The only question is when.

I tend to think the lockout will not wipe out 2 seasons, that it will be resolved sometime next summer/fall before the start of the 05-06 season. Then we sit back and hope and watch as southern cities lose tons of money and we go after acquring a team after the 05-06 season. That team would have a lame-duck season and the Jets would return for the 07-08 season. I have no doubt the CBA will be fixed enough for it to be viable for us and that one year without hockey will be more than enough for one of many southern markets to 'give up' on our game and give it back.
So my prediction is that 3 years from today, we'll be screaming 'Go Jets Go' at the MTSC.

Thats a very good question... (How long will it be before we get our team back).
I think there are a few possibilities... 1) A team owner gets REALLY fed up with the CBA negotiations, and says "i am broke, i have had it, who wants my team, i will sell it for t quarters and a ball of lynt" type thing. So, people start thinking about buying it and most likley relocating it. When they consider re-locating it, Winnipeg puts up a BIG STINK!! and does what ever we can to draw the attention to us. We end up getting the Team as soon as the NHL starts up again... (Could be 2 years min.). I just dont think that this will happen because NO ONE would buy a team before the CBA is settled. and likley no out would Sell a team before CBA because they know they wont get anything for it because there is a possibility the new owner would just have to fold the team.
2) All the owners hang tough, and wait the CBA negotitaions out. once the CBA negotiations are settled, and they still lose money on their NHL teams (Considering the fact that alot of the southen teams have absolutley NO fan base) they put the up for sale hoping their team is worth more than what it would have been worth if they sold it prior to settling the CBA. once again, Winnipeg would have to put up a BIG STINK and get our team back. I think we are looking at atleast 3 years bare min. but it is possible to get it done in 2 i think... just depends on how quickley an owner will sell his team.

The NHL is back in Winnipeg no later than 2006-07.

The Moose host the AHL All-Star Game in Feb. 2006.
The Moose-'Nucks affiliation expires in June 2006.
The 2006-'07 NHL season sounds good to me.
Hey Chipman, start looking for places to relocate your Moose.

They can find another team, we'll keep the Moose, but move them down to Fargo. The can be the Jets farm team.

Some wishful thinking here, guys.
I wish the Jets would come back tomorrow.
even tho all the math adds up, and the numbers are crunching in our favour. Don't expect a team here until at least 2009. Just the legalities, and politics of it all can make things very difficult.
it'd be awesome if they came sooner, but I'm prepared to camp out a little bit longer.
