www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLNNsQEwx3gYouTube clip of Dale Hawerchuk night before a Coyotes game last year where they retired his number. Most of the fans sound like they don't even know he is. Little applause too. Pretty sickening.

i was at the game and ceremony about 10 rows up between the blue lines facing Hawerchuk...rows of empty seats and my $15 dollar ticket in hand, purchase minutes before the game, it was, how can you say, surreal...the phoenix fans tried to be nice but, well you can see for yourself it was an awkward situation...

Thanks again to "egg16" for supplying me with a DVD of this clip (and others).

Why don't the Moose honor him? I'm sure he would get a lot more respect at the MTS Centre.

The Moose did honour Dale on December 22, 2000. A banner was raised in honor of his accomplishments. I don't pretend to know what happened to the banner though...!!

That was perhaps one of the saddest, most pathetic things I have ever seen. I think one day, when our team returns, we'll set this right and honour Dale the way he should be honoured. And there will be cheers raining down from all levels of the MTS Centre. And it will be a night that nobody will ever forget. I'm surprised he even agreed to do this and he was very careful with his wording as he always referred to the organization rather than the Jets.
I'm going to get out my vomit bag now.
Wow! Do we ever need a team back. I can't wait.

I just found out that the Moose have the game tape archived, and it's just a matter of finding it...

Do we ever need a team back. I can't wait. Yes. We need a team back. Yes. I can't wait until we get one back. But, as far as the night Dale was honored by the Moose being pathetic? I don't think so. Yes, I look forward to the day when a team returns to this city so the ceremony can be done in the manner it should have been in 1996. But, that couldn't happen when Dale was still active in the NHL. And, when the Moose honored him it wasn't the jets honoring him so they couldn't very well retire a number of a player who never played for them (though they have done it for two other players who have never played for them- Hull-9, Steen-25). But as for the ceremony itself? All things considered it was done quite nicely. But, next time, when they get it right by retiring the jersey number, the ceremony will be much better.
