December 22, 2005 Two former Jets will play in the Olympics By STAFF The debate over who's on and who's not will be raging on well into February, but hardcore fans from River City can be proud that two former Winnipeg Jets made the grade. As Canada's men's and women's Olympic teams were announced yesterday, Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan and Detroit Red Wings defensive specialist Kris Draper were among the 23 members to make the grade. Doan, the Jets first-round pick (seventh overall) in the 1995 NHL entry draft, has six goals and 22 points in 34 games this season and has been a valued member of Team Canada who scored the game-winning goal during the World Cup in 2004. Draper, a third round pick (62nd overall) of the Jets in 1989, has one goal and seven points in 34 games this season but his swift skating, ability to kill penalties, take faceoffs and reliability in his own zone make him a valuable addition on a veteran-laden team. Draper and Doan are likely to play on an energy line with Edmonton Oilers captain Ryan Smyth. Canada is looking to defend the gold medal it won in Salt Lake City in 2002. www.winnipegsun.com/Sports/Hockey/2005/12/22/pf-1363879.html
