I always thought that the Jets may have acquired the rights for Hasek, at some point before he got really good. It was either from Chicago or Buffalo, but then we traded him again right away. Is this true or has my memory hardcore failed me?

He was traded for Beauregard, at one time, but it looks like Buffalo had Beuregard at that time.....hmmm, maybe I am wrong, and in some way, less awesome.

Chicago had Eddie Belfour. It would have torn the team apart before they could go anywhere for them to have kept both. Montreal let Tony Esposito go and the next year they got Ken Dryden. In hindsight that deal looks stupid too but when you have multiple HOFers and only one #1 spot, one of them has to go. Did Chicago make the right choice? In the short term yes. (Eddie won them numerous division titles and their only Cup Finals appearance in the last 32 years.)

NO! This is the biggest mis-conception of all time. Hasek was never properity of the Jets. That trade was so we could keep Beauregard out of the waiver draft(WHY?). This is how it went down.
Beauregard traded by Jets to Buffalo Sabres for Christian Ruuttu and future considerations, June 15, 1992.
Traded by Sabres (with fourth-round selection Eric Daze in 1993 entry draft) to Chicago Blackhawks for G Dominik Hasek, August 7, 1992.
Traded by Blackhawks to Winnipeg Jets for Christian Ruuttu, August 10, 1992.
This was more of Mike Smith's messing with the waiver draft rules where the Jets would hold a couple of players (Keith Acton, Pete Peters of the Flyers in 89) for a while and get paid for it.

On a side note, Chicago didn't get totally burned by the Hasek trade as Daze was a top player for them for many years. As was Eddie.
Again, there can be only one #1 in goal and the Hawks had to choose between HOFers. Win win for them IMO.

The Hawks were in a difficult position, and Hasek had yet to prove he was hall of fame material.

One Cup a few vezina's but I hated his style (if you could call it that), this is just personal bias, I have never been a big fan of Europeans, although many are incredibly skilled, they also brought diving over here with them. I guess I sound like Cherry

I guess I sound like Cherry I don't like the guy either, but there's no doubt he'll be in the HOF. 2 MVPs, 2 Jennings, 6 Vezinas an Olympic Gold and a Cup will get him in guaranteed.
