I was a big fan of the Autographs when i was a kid (weren't we all?)
I recall grabbing jets autographs all the time, my dad would take me downstairs where the players signed all the time. I had a book with the LA Kings logo on it that i got all the autographs in, my grandma gave it to me. I remember some guys joking with me about not wanting to sign because it was a LA book. From time to time however, i would go to the away teams locker room exit and get them to sign Hockey Cards. When St. Louis was in town, i went down early (i was a hardcore Brett Hull fan) and waited between the steel fence type thing wall where the players came out of. The security guard kept telling me to back up, but when Brett Hull emerged, i ran past the guart and shoved my card and sharpie pen right up to him (i was probably only as tall as his legs) and he signed that bad boy for me. I was sooo pumped for like a week after that. I couldn't get CuJO's autograph, so i sent him a card in the mail a few years later with a envelop w/stamps (but didn't self address it cuz i was a dumb kid) and a note saying how i thought he was a great goalie, and was my 2nd favorite player (what a nice thing to say huh?). i also requested his autograph. Sure enough, i got it back signed and everything! I still respect CuJo to this day just for signing that, and sending it back.
I wanna here your sweet autograph stories.

I have two... I went to the Jets open practice one year for autographs. They used to have tables set up in the concourse of the arena, with 5 guys at each table. I went to the first one and I remember two things. First, what a nice guy Carlyle was. He said Hello to everyone, posed for pictures, signed whatever you wanted, and was all smiles. Next to him was Bryan Marchment. What a d!ck! He was at the end of the table looking off to the side. Didn't even look at people. He signed a big stack of cards in advance (that they were giving away) and just had them on the table in front of him. I asked him to sign something else and he just pointed at this stack of cards. Go Jets Go! Figures he'd wind up a Leaf, too! Anyway, they were only out there for an hour and I was still waiting on line for Essensa's autograph. They came and herded him away down the stairs and I chased after him through the crowd. I don't know if anyone remembers that corner entrance in the old barn than led to the basement, but they closed the stairs off and only let players down. So, I lied down on the ground on my stomach and shoved my card under the rail, right in front of Bob's face as he walked down the stairs! He stopped, got out his Sharpie and was going to sign and Mike O'Hearn, the Jets communication director stopped hiim and said "No, Bob. No time". Go Jets Go #2 on the day. ;D Story #2 is when I was in high school. We went to a Jets-Habs game. I wasn't intending to get autographs, but I came with some Habs fans so I was waiting for them to get the Habs 'graphs. Since it was the Habs, everyone was at the visitors dressing room, so there was almost no one for the Jets. They were taking their sweet time coming out, so I went wandering around the basement. Now remember, the basement was right at ice level, so this is where they dragged the nets after the game. Sure enough, what's sitting on the back of the net? A water bottle! Rick Tabaracci got the start that night and I know it was his and not Andre Racicot's becuase Red-Light Racicot led in an Olausson slapshot from center to tie the game at 2-2 and it ended that way. So his teammates didn't come out to congratulate him at the end - he just grabbed his sh!t and skated off. Anyway, I go back to the Jets room and Itchy Scratchy Tabaracci comes out! I work my way in there and hand him the bottle. He gives me this classic "WTF?" look, so I smile and say "Can you sign that for me, Rick?". He goes "Sure, got a pen?". I grab a pen from buddy standing next to me and sure enough, he signs it. It was a Bic, so he really had to dig it in there to get the ink to flow. ;D Best yet, there was still some orange Gatorade in the bottle! ;D Didn't drink it, though. Ian, thanks for the thread. It's awesome to relive those great memories. I've lots more stories if anyone wants to hear them!

My grade 6 teacher took our class on a field trip and one of the things we did was go to a Jets practice..this would have been 1982 I believe. Anyhow, John Ferguson and then coach Barry Long were sitting in the stands observing parctice on the other side of the ice from us. My teacher knew I was a big hockey fan and told me I could go ask for their autographs. So I walked around the corridor and to their section and as I walked toward their seats, I wasn't even 20 feet away from them and Ferguson said, without even looking at me "not now kid". Barry Long though was super nice and said "come on over here I'll sign your book for ya". Ferguson didn't even acknowledge me the whole time!

Of course we want to hear more of you stories guys, its awesome to read! The only autograph I really got was Theo Fleury... I was in his home town of Russel MB... He was running a hockey camp that my brother was trying to get into. He was stading and watchin the kids play for a bit. So my brothers and I went up to him and asked for an autograph, he wen tot his bag, grabbed 4 posters and signed them for us... It was pretty sweet. He had to good ol Canadian Hockey player look, some missing teeth. A red plaid jacket farmer style. and Ian, I think I saw that crack pipe taped under his hat too

When I was young I didn't get to go to too many Jet games. I only got to see a couple live, all against Cali teams. So I don't have a cool story about Jet autographs. I have a Chris Jericho autographed photo of him when he was in the WCW and I got to meet him when he was in town visiting his father who works at my g-pops insurance business at the Courts. I was a huge fan of wrestling back then, I was soo excited to meet him I told everyone at school the next day, but most didn't believe me, but I didn't care. I also have a Jays hat signed by Pat Hentgen who I met before a game last June, a game he started in. That turned out to be the last game he ever started. He couldn't find the strike zone and got lit up, only made it through 2 thirds of an inning, but just being there watching one of my favourite players in action was good enough for me. What was also cool about that game was that it was the last ever game the Expos played in Toronto. And also being on Sportscentre game highlights later that night was radical, you can see me and my friend reaching over the railing trying to catch a Tony Batista homerun that went over the left-feild wall. ;D Good times.

it was december 93 and me, my bro(5yrs old at the time) and my parents went to polo park for the evening. as we were walking towards the middle of the mall, i noticed a lot of kids with autographed jets cards. as we got to roots, i seen essensa sitting there signing autographs. i told fipz(bro) that we were going to get essensa's autograph and his eyes widened and he was shaking with nervousness. his heart was beating so fast. it was great. we lined up and essensa signed a card for me and one for fipz. then we went downstairs to the jets all pro shop and now i noticed a bunch of kids with selanne autographed cards. i looked around and i finally noticed that teemu was standing right beside me!!! we grabbed a jets schedule from the jets store and got teemu to sign it. its been on my wall ever since ;D

I have a Jets jersey singed by the last seasons team. I got that because I played hockey with John Paddocks daughter, he came to one of our games and invited us to one of there pratices. We also got to partice with them which was cool because it was my first time on the arena ice. I have it framed. I also have my Ed Belfour Toronto Maple Leafs jersey autographed by him. I had to mail it to TO though to get him to sign it. I was goalie when I played hockey and had my mask painted like his. I have my Goldeyes jersey singed by last years team. I work for them and at our staff party the players came and had a party with us. I also have a autographed picture of Chris Jericho when he got the Order of the Buffalo. I also have my Brett Hart book autographed by him. I have a picture of Legion of Doom signed by them when I met them when we had wrestling at CanWest Global Park.
