Even though he won NHL coach of the year with that "platoon" system..it didn't save the jets in there series against the Oilers and for the 1990-1991 season where they hit rock bottom in the Smythe Division Out was Murdoch and that piece of crap Platoooon system...

Murdoch would rotate the goalie from game to game. Essensa...Beauregard...Essensa. Essensa was hurt in game 4 (the game that Ellett scored in double OT). I think that might have been the reason why he didn't play after that??? Or did he? I just cannot remember.

i really dont like the rotate system. it doesnt give the goalie time to really get into the groove or into the rythym. the jets only gave essensa the chance one time in the playoffs(vancouver). why they stuck to tabbaracci is still a huge mystery to me. essensa was a vezina candidate that year for crying out loud!!!!

yeah I didn't understand why they didn't run on hot goalies. But that Jets management/coach for you. They were so stupid passing up on Wayne Gretzky.

That move should have cost Paddock his job. It ruined Essensa. He was in his prime in 1991-92, and could have helped the Jets make a run at the cup that year. Instead they chose to go with "Red Light Rick". In games 5-7 he must have let in 20 goals in 3 games!

More of the genius of mike smith. Hiring people who can dazzle you with their array of theories like a university professor but cannot lead men or win to save their lives.
murdoch and paddock rendered us into LOSERpeg again and we became a true laughing stock around the NHL on par with Hartford. The way we celebrated going up 3-1 over the Oilers and canucks when we hadn't finished the job set us up for failure and guess what, we did.
The smith era did this to us and as a city we have yet to recover from that kind of LOSERpeg inferiority complex. (Maybe that's why people here don't get upset when the Bombers miss the playoffs more often than not and the moose have a mortgage on the basement in the AHL.)
