Without question, the "Whiteouts."
And, with that of course came the most famous goal in Winnipeg Jets history.
Dave Ellett's Double OT winner.

For me it was the night the Jets smacked the Colorado Rockies on December 23rd, 1980 to bring the longest winless streak in major league sports history to an end!
Aside from that here is my top 10:
10. I was just 3 years old but the 1979 Avco Cup victory parade was pretty cool. I asked my dad if this happens every year and he said with a huge grin, "YES". Little did I know...
9. The 4th gaim of the 1992 playoffs with Vancouver. That was over from the first period on and the fans were celebrating and parading a tinfoil Stanley Cup through Maroons Road! The 2 Sports Guys brought out the craziest fans in the building onto the ice between periods and really got the place rocking. Awsome night in general!
8. Dale Hawerchuck's 100th point against the Kings. Ducky didn't wear a helmet that night either.
7. Hawerchuck's 50th goal in 1985. You would have thought Bobby Hull had come back the way the fans reacted that night.
6. KOing the Flames in 1987. The last win was something special.
5. Bobby Hull night. It took nearly a decade for Ferguson to get Enterprizes to allow him to start retiring jerseys but when he got his chance it was done with class. On a side note, the Oilers have copied this type of retirement ceremony with the player of honor coming out in full gear.
4. Selanne's 54th goal. To think this record was supposedly untouchable. Selanne made it look like child's play.
3. Gaim 3 of the 1996 playoffs. From booing the American anthem to the Jets absolutely slaughtering the greatest regular season team in NHL history to the loudest the arena has ever been, a defining moment in our city's history.
2. Dave Ellett's ot winner against Edmonton in 1990 and Dave Ellett's ot winner against Calgary in 1985. (tie) When the Jets return there has been a lot of water cooler discussion about numbers that should be retired and Ellett's should get some serious consideration.
1. JETSTOCK at the Forks! Over 30,000 strong packed the Forks to support the Save the Jets movement. It made it onto CNN's prime time newscast, NBC, CBS, ABC and of course, Hockey Night in Canada. Don Cherry's salute to the fans during Coaches Corner was given the loudest cheer of all when the rally was stopped so we could watch it. All of the remaining Jets that chose to stay in town were on hand as was every local luminary imaginable. I was handing out stickers and other work there so I didn't get to see as much of it as I would have liked but I will never forget this night as the one time this city proved it was still alive to the rest of the world.

Dec. 27/92 -> Winnipeg beats the much hated Minnesota N. Stars 7-4 in a traditional post x-mas home and home series. Selanne notches 2G's & 1A (if memory serves me correctly).. After the game Teemu is namesd the games 1st star, and hands me his stick.
Still got it up on my wall. Good t hing I'm a lefty and he's a righty.

Would that game happen to be the first for Domi & King? I remember the jets going on a tear for a whole month after that deal with the Rangers. Definately one of their better trades in Jet history!

Don't belive it was their first but it was in the time that they were still new Jets. I was 12 and workin at the arena sellin popcorn/pop/ice cream. I worked there for about 6 weeks and then the family decided to move to BC and the teams hot streak came to an end. I like to think that my employment there was the cause for the sudden improvement in play.

Even through all the whiteouts, and other great moments the Jets had, I still believe that is when this city "fell in love with the Jets." They always liked them. But, on that day it was like a love-in.

Mine would have to be the last game I ever went to. Last reg. season home game of the year vs L.A. It sucks because other than this game, its hard for me to fully remember many others, I was too young at the time and I didnt start to really follow hockey until the Jets last while here.
Anyways, that was my favorite..even this ones a little blurry to remember, but the crowd was amazing, a sea of white, and the jets won too. It was I guess one of the saddest games too, but looking back, I'm so glad I got to go.

J4L, here's one for you.
Decmeber 28, 1992... my dad woke me up that morning and the first thing he said was "Tie Domi just got traded to the Jets!". It was like Christmas morning all over again, except even better. I was so excited thats all I thought about that day and I couldnt sleep that same night. I was already a huge Domi fan, I had his Rangers home jersey with the #28 on it, and a buddy of mine at school had the away jersey with Domi and the same #28 on the back. I had worn my Domi jersy at a few Jets games before he was traded and there were always a few clowns who would make fun of it because he had lost a much publicized fight with Bob Probert, but I knew now that it was the last time someone would laugh at it.
One of my favorite Jets games was Domi and King's first game in Winnipeg, against the Boston Bruins in a New Years Eve tilt. Domi scored the first time he touched the puck as a Jet, but did not fight.
I remember things looking like they would get out of hand in the last few secionds with a Bruin player knocking a couple of Jets arround... Domi was standing, rocking back and forth on the bench like a caged animal waiting to get out for one last shift, the fans were chanting Do-Mi! Do-Mi Do-Mi! but Paddock said something to him, and Domi sat back down and didnt get that last shift in. As of that game, Domi was no longer just a goon who rode his stick when he scored or did his speed-bag or his heavywieght belt arround his waist routine after a fight. He now was ready to show that he could do more than just fight.

one of the games i attended that really sticks out for me winnipeg vs minnesota. the jets ended up winning 7-6(i think). selanne got his 50th that night and racked up a total of 4 goals. wow, what a game. another memory of selanne that i have is, during training camp before he had ever played in the leagua yet, just watching him skate and shoot the puck. i knew then, that this guy was a special player. a few nights later i seen him get 2 goals and 2 assists during a pre-season game against san jose(we stomped 8-1 ;D).

I remember a game when Essensa was in net... the puck got shot off of the glass behind the net and Essensa (luckily) pinned the puck against the crossbar with his back (on the fly!). I was a kid back then and thought it was the coolest save ever.
Then there was a game where we were playing Montreal, and ol' Red Light Racicot was in net. Someone was heading off of the ice (maybe Freddy O.) on a line change and he dumped the puck in just as he was getting to the bench. Puck hopped and went five-hole. Brutal, lol.

I recall me and my buddy stopping at a sports card shop in Kildonan Place on the way to the game to buy Tie Domi's rookie card. Awesome night!

1. i was at the game salanne broke mike bossy's record...especially not expecting salanne to break the record that night with a hatrick
2. I was at the game dale hawerchuk scorrd against edmonton in the playoffs (game 4 i think) with 2 minutes left. our franchise player scoreing the winning goal in the playoffs was like gretzky scoring the winning goal in the playoffs for edmonton.
3. the game between winnipeg and vancouver where peca nailed salanne and all hell broke loose. that game showed winnipeg was the toughest team in the NHL and weren't going to get knocked around by anyone.
4. anytime salanne touched the puck fans would cheer. when stu barnes touched the puck fans would say "STUUUUUUUUU". When domi was on the ice fans would cheer.
5. i was visiting Edmonton when i was 7 and that was right in the heart of the dynasty of the oilers. My uncle took me to a jets game and the jets won in overtime. I was the only person to jump up and down retardly. Good thing i was a kid or else the oiler fans around me would have linched me.

my favourite memory was meeting teemu selanne and kris king in '95 and being invited to sit with them for a couple beers while the team was having it's year-end windup. it was pretty neat shooting the breeze with them.
this was also the night i saw first hand what a smug prick keith tkachuk was.

hawker14, that sounds pretty awesome!
About the finding out that night how much of a jerk Tkachuk was, do you got a story about that? What happened if you don't mind telling?

it was basically the way he acted towards the people there. he'd look at people, then just shake his head. i've never seen someone as condescending to the staff and patrons as he was. he told a couple guys who said hi to "get away from me, i'm off the clock". it was pretty much everything about the guy.
i told my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) that he would never win a Cup. You could see a real division between him and his teammates. i thought manson was actually going to punch him out.

I remember hearing about an incident at Perkins (polo Park)around 93 or 94 after a Jets game, where Tkachuk was irate because the female hostess didn't recognize who he was, and thus had to wait in line like everyone else. According to the rumor, Tkachuk publicly berated the girl, and she went to the back crying....
Keep in mind, I don't have any proof of this. This was the main Tkachuk story I often heard during the time he was a Jet.
