stephane beuaragard ahead of khabibulin, daley, redthingy, hayward?!?! are you serious. beuaragard wasnt a very good goalie at all. I didn't rank those goalies. I just randomly put 10 goalies together. Stephane Beaureguard would definitely be on the bottom of that list.

Ditto for the 91-92 Canucks-Jets series when they put Tabaracci in net. Khabibulin was the best goalie ever to wear a Jet uniform, but he only played one year, so I would give Essensa the nod as the Jets best-ever goalie. Brian Hayward was ok in net, nothing special. Daniel Berthiaume was great for awile, but fizzled out after the 87-88 season. Pokey wasn't bad, but not as good as Berthiaume. Doug Soetart was the most underrated goalie the Jets had, as he was better than Hayward, but I believe he either retired or was traded. Rick Tabaracci was by far, the most overrated goalie. He was failed as the future franchise goaltender in the early 90's He did nothing for the Jets, and often choked in the big games, like the Canuck-Jet playoff series of 1991-92. Tim Cheveldae was a mediocre goalie. He never did anything for the team, while Essense was dealt to Detroit. Thankfully, Khabi was there to rescue us from him. Stephane beauregard....never understood why the Jets used him over Essensa in the last 3 games (which, incidentally were all losses) against the Oilers in 1990.

back then I think they weren't prepared on giving goalie the number one job it was always ride the goalie with the hottest hand. that still doesnt apply to those series. tabbaracci still played in games 5,6 and 7 even thoough he allowed 8 goals in both games 5 and 6 and then got blown out in game 7 too! essensa was vezina finalist that year! same with the edmonton series. beauragard wasnt hot anymore. they didnt even give essensa the chance in the playoffs. we all know what he can do when got hot. we would have won those games. all we needed was one more Go Jets Goin win. grrrrrrrrrr. im still bitter about those moves.

I think the fact that the Jets refused to give Essensa the nod in the 1990 and 92 Playoffs killed his confidence. It's very sad since he was only in his mid 20's at the time. Later, he would have one more good season, before being traded to Detroit, where he was thrust into the #1 goalie position on the hottest NHL team at the time.
Essensa suffered in Detroit. I think it is a direct result of the Jets telling him "you played good in the season, but we have no faith in you, so we will go with the backup for the playoffs". IF only they left Essensa in net for the Oilers series, it is no telling how far they could have gone.
Rick Tabaracci was a mediocre goalie at best, so why would he be chosen over Essensa in the 2002 Playoffs? Did Mike Smith/ John Paddock have a personal vendetta against Essensa? To me, it is one of lifes greatest mysteries. Look at what a stellar career Tabs had after being traded. He was a benchwarmer, and a AHL starter at best. It wasn't one of Smith's best moves.

Worst goalie ever was O'Neill....
What about Roussell? He wasnt half bad.... backup for Khabby in 96.

Essensa was a great goalie. The Jets never utilized him properly, though. They destroyed his confidence by benching him, not only during the Jets-Oilers 1990 series, in favor of beaureguard, but in 1992 against the Canucks. In what is considered perhaps the most bizarre move in Jets history, the benched Vezina candidate Essensa, and put in unproven rookie Rick Tabaracci. The results speak for themselves. "Red Light Rick" played well the first 4 games, but burnt out afterwards, and let in 20 goals in the final 3 games.
