Worst draft pick: Keith Tkatchuk
Need I say more? People like him are the reason there's a lockout today. Nuff said.

Best trade, re-acquiring Ed Olczyck at the trade deadline.
Worst Trade
Selanne, Chouinard, Draft pick for Kilger, Tverdovsky, draft pick. This trade was made in "THE SEASON TO REMEMBER". Such a pi$$ off!!! They were already looking to the future and not even caring about a Jets playoff run.
Another bad trade was trading away the draft pick that was used to draft Patrick Roy.

worst player transactions:
Protecting Scott Campbell instead of Kent Nilsson in the 1979 NHL reclaimation draft.
Selling Kris Draper to the Detroit Red Wings for $1 in 1993.

More Best Draft picks: 1. Teemu Selanne - without a doubt, the best player the jets had in there last hey days of the NHL. 2. Thomas Steen - the sweedish sensation is a jet for life 3. Dave Ellet - Good defensmen for the jets and he held up his own. 4. Stu Barnes - STUUUUUUU! 5. Alexei Zhamnov - also another worthy jet draft pick who has risen to the occasion. MORE WORST DRAFT PICKS 1. JASON DOIG - words cannot describe this bust 2. KEITH TKACHOKE - give me my money! ?? 3. SERGEI BAUTIN - mike smith should've been fired long time ago

worst player transactions: Protecting Scott Campbell instead of Kent Nilsson in the 1979 NHL reclaimation draft. Selling Kris Draper to the Detroit Red Wings for $1 in 1993. The 'Magic Man' had a serious alcohol problem and was a liability at that point. (Calgary and Minnesota found this out the hard way...) The guy I would have taken over Scott Campbell was Terry Ruskowski. The guy was pure heart, soul and grit and a damn good leader. He also genuinely wanted to stay here. That kind of attitude was desperately needed here. Best draft pick: Teemu Selanne/Dale Hawerchuck (tie) Honorable mention: Dave Ellett WORST draft pick: Sergei Bautin and nobody else even comes close. Best trade: Moe Mantha to the Pens for Randy Carlyle. Honorable mention: Tie Domi to the Leafs for Eddie O and Mike Eastwood. Tie was and is a dressing room cancer who HATED Winnipeg and the team. On the other hand, Eddie LOVED Winnipeg and unlike Domi, always worked hard when he was here. Eastwood was a solid 2-way player during his year and a half here. Honorable mention 2: Scott Campbell for Perry Turnbull and Paul McLean. Campbell had lots of potential when we got him from Houston but was never the same defenceman after the merger but what we got for him served us well for the next 9 years. Honorable mention 3: Willy Lindstrom for Laurie Boshman. I know, I know, we all loved Willy. He was a great Jet for many years and a great guy but he was past his prime and couldn't produce anymore and Bosh was just entering his prime. The Oilers didn't benefit from a shot Lindstrom but Bosh would become the best faceoff man of the 80's and a rock solid second line center here. WORST Trade: Selanne for Kilger and Teverdosky. This trade was made to pi$$ off the fans and appease Keith Tkancer and no other reason. Screw you Richard Burke. Honorable mention: Dave Babych for Ray Neufeld. Nuff said.

Yeah that Essensa-Chevaldae trade was pretty crappy. But Dallas Drake turned out to be one of my favourite players.

Yeah that Essensa-Chevaldae trade was pretty crappy. But Dallas Drake turned out to be one of my favourite players. I always thought Cheveldae was better than Essensa... but then again i was only 8 years old at the time, lol

Hands down, no arguing, Sergei Bautin was the worst draft pick by any team in the history of the NHL entry draft. Why draft a 26 YEAR OLD brutal defencemen in the FIRST ROUND when you could probably just sign the guy as a FA? I remember watching the draft on TSN and Bob McKenzie et al were scratching their heads trying to figure out who he was.
best pick, maybe taking khabibulin in the 9th round that same year.
bad trades - how about Hayward for Penney.

sergei boutin was a joke. one of the best moves was getting rid of mike smith. worst move was playing staphane beauragard instead of essensa against the oilers in 1990 and playing tabbaracci against the canucks after they had totally embarrased the whole team(during essensa's vezina nomination year yet). i will never understand those moves.

Worst trades:
1. Phil Housley to St.Louis for Nelson Emerson and Stephan Quintel
GREAT! trade in your number one offensive defensmen for a couple of lack luster forwards..your a dumbass Mike Smith...no wonder the jets did horrible in 1993-1994
2. Jason Doig as a draft pick was such a bust. 3. Trading away Stu Barnes to Florida was such a cluster crap trade...FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS?!?! oh please...

Jason Doig as a draft pick was such a bust. 3. Trading away Stu Barnes to Florida was such a cluster crap trade...FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS?!?! oh please... 1.even though housley was an awesome defenseman and i hated seeing him go, he didnt want to be here. in return we should have probably gotten more but to say that emerson was a lackluster forward is going a little extreme. he was one of the leaders in the league that season in shorthanded goals. he was one of a few players that played decent that year. stephane guintal eventually turned into a pretty good DEFENSEMAN too. 2. im not sure how high doig was drafted so im not going to comment on that one. 3. the stu barnes trade was horrible. if i remember correctly, it was barnes for randy gilhen and some draft picks. horrible trade. i should also mention that the selanne trade was one of the worst in team history but at that time, it didnt bother me that much seeing as they were gone in a few months anyway. still sad to see my favorite player go though.

THE WORST TRADE INVOLVING A GOALTENDER: Someone please egg Mike Smith's house on Christmas.. Bob Essensa for Tim Cheveldae GREAT! trade your number one goaltender who lead you to the playoffs 3 out of the 4 years he was starting for a goaltender who didn't even perform good here as he did in Detroit... I dont know if you guys were high on that trade at the time but it left me seriously pissed off

Great trade:
Hawerchuk to Sabres for Housley and draft pick Tkachuk, skills wise it was great but team wise not they both didn't want to be here.
Worst trade:
Teemu for Kilger and Tverchovski (sorry I can't remember how to spell his name)
Eddie O. to toronto for Tie Domi and Kris King, we were ripped off I say, myself I hated seeing eddie go but luckily we got him back. I think Mark Osborn and Darrin were added to that trade.
Kris Draper for a dollar
Essensa for Chevy was a horrendous trade but they both were struggling pretty bad so at that time is was a desperate trade at trading deadline.
Who did we trade for to get Dallas Drake, I know we got him at the same time we traded Bobby Essensa.
trades for Paul Ysebaert, John Druce, Mark Osborn, and craig janney turned out to be awful trades.
Having Troy Murray as Captain was a joke
Great Draft picks : Hawerchuk, Boschman, smail, selanne, Tkachuk, doan, ellet, marchement, draper, Fredrik Olausson, Teppo Numminen, Thomas Steen, and Khaby, Essensa and zhamnov was ok
Worst picks: Aaron Ward, Sergei Beautin, what makes this worse they were 1st round draft picks

I saw the topic of this post and remembered the Kris Draper for a dollar trade to the Redwings... I notice a couple of guys have mentioned it, and i am going to have to say we have made many bad ones, but that takes the cake, regardless of how we got in return for any of our guys, that MUST be the worst.
For a dollar... $1.00 Was it USD atleast???
I mean, honestley... that literally only pays 1/1000000 of some players salaries. Brutal...
They could have atleast got future considerations, or somthing... Not to mention Draper wasn't the worst of all players...

we traded eddie o to the rangers along with a draft pick for king and domi. it sucked getting rid of eddie but we needed toughness and we definitly got it with those 2. as for the drake question it was essensa, boutin(suckers to detroit on that one) for cheveldae and drake. cheveldae straight up for essensa would have been horrible but seeing as that we dumped boutin on them and got drake too, i think we got the upper hand in that one. i was really sad to see goalie bob go though. i thought the craig janney trade was a great deal. we traded darren turcotte for janney(i think). turcotte did nothing for us and janney was great on the the line with tkatchuk and drake at the end of the year.
