If you're interested in the hockey strategy game ratings for 2010-11 by the Strat-o-Matic Game co., check out the excel spreadsheet at the link (above). The spreadsheet is labelled 2009-10 in the spreadsheet itself, but that is a typo, since it is clearly 2010-11 data.
This is a hockey strategy board/computer game created by a famous sports game company. The game company is well known for its baseball strategy game (which is truly excellent), but their hockey strategy game is very good as well. Strat-o-Matic is very well regarded for producing games that are statistically VERY accurate - and therefore true to life.
The offense ratings are on a scale of 1-4, and the defense ratings are 1-5, with 1 being poor, and 4 (or 5) being excellent. The game system is actually more complicated. The offense rating does not take into consideration shooting percentage, since that is dealt with by individualized player shooting charts. The game action occurs through action deck cards and split card decks, which replicate the flow of game action, while referencing player ratings and shooting charts to trigger the appropriate game results (with strategy settings).
The first team you see when you open the spreadsheet is Atlanta (!) (because it is sorted by conference, and then alphabetically by city name).
I posted a separate thread on this, but what you can see from this chart is how Atlanta suffered from a lot of players with defense ratings of 1 and 2 (poor and subpar) in 2010-11. My point on my team analysis thread in this section is that the main issue for Atlanta in 2010-11 was poor overall team defense.
Interestingly, the best defense ratings on Atlanta for 2010-11 were Andrew Ladd (4) and Tobias Enstrom (4).
I'm looking forward to getting this game for 2010-11 - and replacing "Atlanta Thrashers" with "Winnipeg Jets" on the cards!!!!
Go Jets Go!!!!
