Today In NHL History - Winnipeg Jets White Out

On April 11th in 1987, the Winnipeg Jets introduced the "White Out" in response to the Calgary Flames "C of Red" employed by fans during the first two games of the first round playoff series at the Saddledome.

Winnipeg went on to beat Calgary in six games only to be swept by the Edmonton Oilers in the next round. The playoff attire tradition continued as the club encouraged everyone to "wear white tonight" in a parody of Wang Chung's tune "Everybody Have Fun Tonight".

Amazingly, Winnipeg never won another playoff series after their inaugural White Out against Calgary, a streak that remains to this day in their present incarnation as the Phoenix Coyotes, leading some to dub the custom the "White Curse".

It's not a White Curse in Wilkes-Barre - we do the whiteout too, and we've won three conference championships! though the one year nobody showed up until the comeback against Portland (even though we played Hershey and Philly in rounds 1 and 2), so it was mostly a blueout lol

When I read the date, I thought crazy that was 14 years ago. And then I did the mental math over again (cried a little inside) when it hit that it was 24 years ago. Where the hell has the time gone?

Dude, that was the funniest thing I have read in a long time. No offense to NessGoJetsGo but man, you are VERY proud about your "Baby" Penguins. I cannot fault you there but I wonder if you should create a WBS Penguins fan forum, where people can actually relate to your devotion of the team. Of the 3558 members here, you are the only WBS fan.
