I remember hearing around the same time Selanne, Zhamnov, and Tkachuk debuted that that the Jets had another promising rookie by the name of Kris Draper.
I was really hoping that he would be a part of the Jets starting lineup. Then in June 1993, the jets got rid of him for virtually nothing. What happened?
Why did the Jets trade Draper for next to nothing? He was only 21 at the time, and about to break into the NHL.

I have often wondered about this as well. I wonder if it was part of an earlier deal involving future considerations? Anyone remember why we got rid of a promising rookie for a fricken BUCK!?!?!?

Guess Draper wasn't Russian enough for Mikhail Smith.

Guess Draper wasn't Russian enough for Mikhail Smith. Bingo! Mike Smith should go down as one of the worst GM's in the history of hockey. He thought he was too smart for everyone, and acted like it. He had a philosophy that the team should be stocked with Euro "skill" and North American "grit". Our drafting was horrible because of it. Stories abound regarding Phil Housley (Housley for god's sake) taking a swing at him at a party I believe. Smith was one of the worst things to ever happen to the Jets.

OMG I REMEMBER THAT DOLLAR DEAL, wow I would have been so insulted. You can get 20 arena sour keys for that price.

The one thing I remember about Mike Smith is watching his interviews on TV, and thinking "Does this guy ever comb his hair or take a shower?" The guy looked way to unkempt to be a GM of a professional sports team.

Mike Smith is the biggest joke in hockey. Period.
Fergie may have had his bonehead decisions, but nothing compared to Smith. He had no clue.

Oh wait, Don Waddell comes close. Mike Milbury comes closer.
But Mikhail Smith is still the #1 worst GM in the history of hockey.
