I am reading the Thrashers message boards and posters are saying it is not legally possible to relocate the Thrashers for this next season?
Now, are they smoking something? Something within NHL bylaws?
Someone shut this claim down right now please, Thanks!
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

IT wasnt legal LAST season.
7 years is up!
The naming rights issue is done.
ASG has been prepping to get rid of this team for along time now. Unless an owner buys them and builds them an arena now orrrrrr buys all 3 which has been described as a 1 percent chance the thrashers Are gonzo gonzo gonzo

Those all referred to Atlanta coming here, not Phoenix. But I do understand why some might think it was illegal last year because the ownership issues in Atlanta were not yet settled.

Sup bobster, ill try to explain AIUI :
Basically, No - they arent smoking nothin
Technically they are right that its not feasibly possible - in NORMAL cases
In this case, TNSE is "ready to go"
They have everything they need in place, where its literally they can move a team up till May like last year.
They are just unaware of that.
Also, in their mind there is no deal w TNSE & ASG
This is likely not the case behind the doors. You gotta look at it from their perspective, then it becomes clearer what they are thinking.
But to answer shortly, it IS possible the Thrashers could be relocated for next season here. They are incorrect there.

I think I remember reading about this somewhere, That bylaw has been bypassed in the past, and doesn't actually have any influence on moving a team. The league does not want to own another team for a year, so I'm sure the BoG would just put a vote in and bypass the rule.

Yes, based on following NHL rules to the letter, last yr Atlanta could not be moved due ot the no relocation clause, and this yr they can't be moved because league requirements for relocation have to be submitted by Jan 1st, or 31st or something. However none of this matters, when these are NHL guidelines which they can choose to ignore when it benefits them.

What they are saying the deadline to relocate a team for next year has passed,Jan 1st?And that is true.
But the part they are leaving out is the fine print, the team can still relocate if the NHL owners hold a vote and choose to overturn the by-law.

All that was required Jan. 1 was for an application for relocation is required to be filled out. As long as the request application was filed this would not be an issue. As others are saying, NHL rules and none of them matter anyways.

The NHL constitution makes relocating a two year process. BUT the NHL has often ignored its constitution. Do you think the NHL is going to wait two years to move the Coyotes if it comes to that? Nope, they will be gone quick. The other thing a lot of people over look is that the NHL may already have begun the process of relocation for Atlanta. There is no law that says this process needs to be public. The process could have begun two years ago already.
