Nash not following Coytoes soap opera
By PAUL FRIESEN, QMI Agency
PHOENIX — As a Canadian who plies his trade in Phoenix, you might think NBA star Steve Nash’s loyalties would be torn when it comes to the plight of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes.
But instead of waving the Maple Leaf, or showing his adopted hometown pride, the Victoria native takes a pragmatic approach to the affair.
“What you want to do is go where the franchise has the best chance to succeed,” Nash told QMI Agency. “If it’s here, it should stay here. If it’s not, I can’t really complain if it’s gone. Obviously, living here, it would be nice for the franchise to succeed. But if an ownership group is losing money ... I can’t really fault them.”
Acknowledging he hasn’t had time to follow the Coyotes soap opera closely, Nash says it’d be great to have more teams in Canada.
But only if it makes dollars and cents.
“Maybe one or two more teams,” he said. “It’s dictated on the financial model and how it can survive.”

Wow interesting theory... put the team where the owners won't loose money. Craziness!

spoken like a true canadian , he is humble , remember he works in AZ so he's not going to say anything stupid like they don't deserve a NHL team , no news here

No news, but Nash sets a good example for other athletes. If you're a paid athlete, then don't comment on ownership issues. So far the Coyote players that have offered their opinions look like fools and are burning a bridge with fans. A smart player would simply say "no comment."
