Hull is a shameless ingrate. If it weren't for the Winnipeg Jets, he would have finished his career earning 50K a season and would likely be selling used cars till this very day.
It was the Winnipeg Jets that gave you your freedom and liberated the entire NHL in the process. Yet he goes back to Chicago and tell their fans how he wished he stayed with the Blackhawks. The guy is drunk.
FYI... there have been many examples of teams going back to former NHL markets.
Minnesota Philadelphia Ottawa St.Louis Colorado Oakland/San Jose Atlanta (FAILED)
If anyone should be convinced of the Winnipeg marketplace it should be the first professional sports athlete who was paid over a million dollars - thanks to Winnipeg.

I'd cut Hull some slack. His opinion on the feasibility of NHL in Winnipeg today is outmoded to be sure. But he's 72 years old and reflecting on his career and I have no doubt that his very best hockey memories were of being in his 20's, playing for the Hawks, the Stanley Cup, Chicago Stadium with the big organ playing, etc..
I'm sure he had a blast playing with the Jets, and as long as the Jets were around it kind of justified his making the move. Once the Jets moved, his Jets career must have seemed pretty empty (despite the money he made). All those WHA stats had asterisks all over them to begin with. Now (some) people trash the Jets name like they were our cursed embarrassment (which I don't get at all!).
I'm sure when you're an NHL player, money is very important. Once you retire, I'm sure you don't really remember the money you made, but you remember wins, losses, fights, goals, fans, etc. and most of all your legacy! As of today, his legacy with the Hawks just has a lot more meaning than his legacy with the now dead Jets. JMHO

seriously .. what's so wrong about his comments? Just because he doesn't say "Yeah awesome for sure ... lets go Jets, bring the team back!" Number 1. Its true the NHL is gun-shy about returning to Winnipeg (look at how hard Bettman is fighting to stay in Phx) Number 2: Hell yeah, the people of Winnipeg better damn well prove that they will suport this team not only in the short term but long term as well I see nothing wrong with his brief comments at all, he's just telling it like it is and I still want him there opening night. For shame, haters I agree. I think some people are being a little hard on the Golden Jet and have taken his comments a bit out of context. Regarding the comments stating that his biggest mistake was coming to Winnipeg --- not so, it was actually his biggest regret was leaving Chicago. That's not to say that he didn't enjoy playing in Winnipeg with great linemates like Hedberg and Nilsson but rather how things could have been had he stayed in Chicago. Let's face it, he was the toast of the town in Chicago and played to packed arenas wherever the Hawks played. Sure he left for a financial windfall at the time, but we all second guess ourselves at times for the decisions that we made earlier in life. It must have been very stressful to have gone through the breakup of his family while in Winnipeg and being shunned by many in the NHL for jumping to the WHA. While he was in Winnipeg he did experience what it was like for the team financially and the difficulties that the team faced. There were several ownership changes during his stay here including the very real possibility the team was destined for Milwaukee following the 2nd season in the WHA. The team had to be saved a few times during those years. He hasn't lived in Winnipeg since 1979 so we have to cut him some slack with regards to his understanding of how our city has changed since then. I believe he'd truly like to see a team in Winnipeg and I would certainly like to see him as part of the opening ceremonies when the Jets play their first game back here.

Also Pittsburgh and Quebec City (failed - hopefully third time's the charm). One could also make an argument that the Isles were a replacement of the Americans, though the Amerks played in NYC and the Islanders never have. They were still a return to the same market with a second team.

San Jose is great for hockey! I have no idea how they draw the fans they do but for some reason California really digs hockey. Good call by the NHL to expand back there.
