Phoenix was on the NHL's radar back then. Watch (if you can bear it) Scott Oake's commentary on where the Jets might end up. Minnesota, Phoenix, Atlanta. They are all places that got franchises in the future.

Pretty sure the NHL was dying to get into PHX, alot moreso than to Raleigh, NC.
