TSN.ca
According to capgeek.com, the Panthers have reduced their salary cap commitment to just $18.7 million for next season and have only 10 players signed. They are $24.7 million under the current cap floor as mandated by the NHL's collective agreement.

Well, Florida Panthers to Winnipeg would certainly catch everyone by surprise. ( Myself included )
I think the only people NOT surprised would be the residents of Miami who are too excited about their Miami Heat to care about Ice Cold Panthers,

It's all about the Heat, then it's the Dolphins.

I wonder, will there be a penalty the Panthers have to pay for falling so far below the cap floor? Surely you can't just dump all your assets in February and get away with it.
It would sure seem strange to ditch so many players though I guess LA did it a year or two ago, no? They went into the summer with few bodies.
But if the Panthers were going to surprise people with a sudden relocation, I guess it makes sense (though if you were the buyer, would you really want to be starting from scratch like this)?

NUTS I would say, especially if they're still sticking around the Miami area! However, something (gut feel?) tells me they're quite likely to move before the Thrashers, and if that's true, it's perfectly okay with me! Another JOKEchise bites the dust and heads for greener pastures!

Does the guy who owns Blockbuster still own the Panthers?

Good find. This would surpise me... but on some level, would anyone really be that surprised???
The Panthers have really flown under the radar, get little or no media attention and are an utterly pathetic franchise... After thinking about it, and reading that... I guess I wouldn't be that surprised to see them here or somewhere else in the near future.

C'mon Miami-area residents wouldn't even notice anything different as they're too caught up with the Dolphins and Heat!

The Panthers were just sellers at deadline. This is GM's Tallon building his own team. He will be active in July. Means they are not beefing up for a playoff run. If you look at the FLA salary cap, I find it unusual they are $5M below this years salary cap. Now, that is made up by the players below the Cap numbers as many of them play every game for FLA, and I am sure many young guys will get the chance to play this year to see who they keep or trade to build the team next year. www.hockeybuzz.com/cap-central/team.php?team=FLA
