So I'm going to my 6th NLL game on March 5th in Edmonton to see the Rush play the Stealth. I'm from Sask so I wouldn't know but does lacrosse have a good presence in Winnipeg? Because I was looking at league attendance and MTSC seems to be the perfect size for the NLL. I know the Rush average 7000-8000 per game but Edmonton has always been a hockey-football town. Each team plays 8 games at home and 8 on the road. I know with the Jets (hopefully) returning for next season there will be some nights where they'll be out of town and lacrosse would be the perfect thing to fill those empty nights with. Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Buffalo, Philadelphia, Colorado, Boston and Minnesota all play in arenas used by NHL teams. Hey, there even used to be a team in Arizona called the sting and they averaged 3000 per game at Jobing.com Arena (sounds familiar eh) and they folded at the end of the 07 season. Getting back to Winnipeg, I believe it would be a great way to fill those empty nights at MTSC next year. Even if there is no NHL next year TNSE can look into getting an expansion team in the NLL. I think it could work, what do you think?

Lacrosse recently took a big step in Wpg, the Winnipeg Gryphons who were previously part of the RRLA junior b league were allowed into the RMLL (Alberta and Sask). This is a big move as it allows players the chance to play on a higher level which should do wonders for the growth of the game. Now mind you the Gryphons will likely get lit up in most games, I played against them and we managed to tie and beat them and they'll be playing much stronger teams in that league. But I think in about 5 years they'll be on par with the competition.

I would love to see the NLL in Winnipeg, and i have heard about the rumors of Winnipeg being a possible site for a team but nothing has ever come of it. I wonder if anyone knows how close, or even if were still trying to get a team here or anything?

I doubt we'd be able to get a team to play in the MTSC. If we had another smaller arena I'm sure we'd be on the radar.

Don't think I'll ever attend those events. sorry guys, not not much into Lacrosse. I would rather see some sort of professional Basketball team come here. But whats out there besides NBA? With the Jets back, who would have time to follow Lacrosse anyways? It would be overshadowed by the Jets for years.

Yah, I would agree with the basketball team. They never really had a chance hear and I would love to see a team here from the d league, or something that would be awesome to see.

I highly doubt there would be a NBA D-League team here, unless the Raptors can't get one in Hamilton or Oshawa or somewhere closer. Really not any league worth getting beside the D-League.
As for the NLL, there were rumours a while ago amongst people in the OLA about a NLL coming to Winnipeg, but that is moot at this point. I believe the Ottawa Rebel at one point were rumoured to either go to London or Winnipeg and there were rumblings about some other moves too.
As of now, it probably won't happen. The only portable team right now is probably Rochester (possibly Washington, but they will likely be going to Vancouver if they move). With Styres already getting a MLL team for Hamilton, and with its proximity to his home in Six Nations, if the Knighthawks do move, it will be to Hamilton.
It would be good for the game in Manitoba to see a pro team, and it would probably get some decent crowds, but the reality of the league right now is that they aren't going to expand after some disasters in Chicago, Anaheim, Arizona and a couple others recently.
